Medication Clinic Nurse

In accordance with agency Mission, Vision, Values and Goals, this position serves as nursing staff within the program which serves individuals (adults, adolescents and children) who are in need of pharmacological treatment or evaluation. This is to include clients within the disease management program. Responsibilities include duties associated with the efficient flow of clients through the Medication Clinic, assuring the safety and quality care where medication is concerned, and providing treatments as delegated by providers and other nursing staff. Nurses are expected practice client care within their scope of practice and request assistance from appropriate medical and psychiatric staff as needed. Services for this position are provided under the direction of the Medication Clinic Nurse Supervisor, Director of Nursing, and Medication Clinic Providers.

JOB DUTIES

  • Triage's and returns client phone calls made to Medication Clinic. Consults with physician regarding current or possible problems.

  • Prepares clients for physician visits, including readying paper charts, obtaining vital signs, weight, height, and BMI, as well as AIMS assessments, Metabolic Syndrome screenings and other interventions delegated by CMHS providers.

  • Provides case management including monitoring and making phone calls for clients in order to schedule mental health and medical care appointments and reviewing EMR to anticipate upcoming laboratory and procedure needs.

  • Manages medications as delegated by insurance requirements and provider requests, including preparing and administering injections, preparing sample medication and prescription assistance medication, and obtaining prior authorizations.

  • Reviews and monitors lab testing results and vital results along with physician and takes appropriate action for abnormal results. Refers clients for follow-up with their PCP as needed.

  • Provides current and competent client education regarding client health issues, medications and other treatments and procedures prescribed by Burrell / CMHS providers.

  • Documents completely and appropriately in the clients paper chart, MyAvatar, Cyberaccess, and other health information platforms as is required. Monitors documentation for agency standards compliance, accuracy, and productivity and billing maximization.

  • Ensures that productivity and billing are maximized on a daily basis.

  • Follows all agency policies and procedures including emergency and corporate compliance policies/procedures 100% of the time.

  • Perform consultation and education duties internally as requested in area of medication, medication regimes, and physical management.

  • Conduct or assist individually or with groups which are medication or psychoeducational related as assigned.

  • A ssists in the orientation of new staff and nursing students in Medication Clinic.

  • A ssists in monitoring QA and chart audits in a professional arena.

  • Assists in inventory of supplies and sample medications.

    QUALIFICATIONS

  • LPN required: graduation from an accredited school of nursing, accredited college/vocational school and current professional registration in the State of Missouri, with confirmation from the Missouri State Board of Nursing.

  • Prior experience with adult and youth psychiatric nursing is preferred.
