Conagra Plant Quality Specialist in Imlay City, Michigan

Job Summary

Lead, direct, support, and manage as appropriate, all of the pilot plant’s food & personnel safety efforts to ensure that the facility complies with ConAgra, State, & Federal regulations, policies, and procedures. Achieve Research, Quality, & Innovation food and personnel safety objectives in a safe, legal, efficient, cost effective, and high quality manner.

Position Responsibilities

  • Implement food & personnel safety programs to ensure a safe and accident-free work environment.

  • Plan and deliver programs to train employees in food and workplace safety.

  • Assist in accident investigations and prepare accident reports required by ConAgra and regulatory agencies.

  • Know, understand, enforce, and comply with OSHA, USDA, and FDA regulations. Serve as the pilot plant’s primary contact dealing with these agencies.

  • Conduct inspections of the pilot plant facilities to detect existing or potential food or personnel safety hazards. Determine and implement corrective measures.

  • Interface with, as well as manage/coordinate with NorthMarq and/or other contractors concerning pilot plant safety projects and/or work orders.

  • Ensure the maintenance and upkeep of pilot plant documentation required by OSHA, USDA, and FDA including traceability, sanitation, pest control, JSAs, LOTO, hazard analysis, etc.

  • Lead & conduct routine pilot plant safety meetings.

  • Provide the safety orientations, checklists, training materials, policies etc. for new employees and/or contractors working in the pilot plant.

  • Ensure proper and timely communication of pertinent safety updates to the pilot plant team and users.

  • Communicate effectively with managers, directors, and senior leadership to update and relay pertinent safety information and solutions as appropriate.

  • Adapt to change and continually strive for self-improvement through study, training, etc.

  • Maintain complete and accurate records for all the above responsibilities as appropriate.

Position Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.

  • Relevant experience in the food processing industry.

  • Thorough knowledge of USDA, OSHA and FDA regulations impacting facilities operation.

  • Proficient at Microsoft office programs including word, excel, power point, etc.

  • Relevant training in food & personnel safety including traceability, sanitation, pest control, JSAs, LOTO, hazard analysis, etc.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work various shifts on occasion.

Physical Demands

Incumbent must have the ability to effectively perform all of the following physical demands without assistance:

Occasional travel including flying to all parts of the U.S. and possibly overseas.

Regularly required to walk, talk, sit, stand, climb stairs, write, type, push, and pull.

Occasionally lift/carry up to sixty pounds.

Exposure to manufacturing environments for periodic extended work days to include: loud noise, excessive heat, cold, wet, and slippery conditions.

Walking and/or standing for long periods of time.

Driving a company or rental vehicle for up to six hours as needed.
