General Atomics and Affiliated Companies Senior Integration, Assembly, and Test Engineer in Huntsville, Alabama

General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) is a supplier of advanced electromagnetic systems, related power equipment and other high technology products for a variety of government and commercial applications. These include products such as the design and fabrication of linear motors, superconducting and conventional rotating motors, power inverters, high-energy capacitors, radiation monitoring systems, high-voltage direct current power distribution systems, and numerous other products.

We have an exciting opportunity in our Aerospace Engineering department for a Senior Integration, Assembly, and Test Engineer. This full-time position will serve as the IA&T Engineer for missile, satellite, projectile, and other weapon systems. The successful candidate will provide technical support to a multi-disciplinary team distributed between Huntsville, AL, Tupelo, MS, Centennial, CO, Fredericksburg, VA, and San Diego, CA. The IA&T Senior Engineer will support the project team through all phases of the design, development, integration, and test of the various systems.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBITIES:

  • Develop system test plans, execute ground and flight tests, and document test results.

  • Develop test plans with mission relatable, requirements traceable, and intuitively testable metrics along with a scope and method to evaluate systems.

  • Determine, communicate, document the test objectives, and develop test procedures accordingly.

  • Support technical interchanges for test activities on major weapon system and satellite demonstration programs acting as the primary interface with national test ranges, range safety offices, and other test related organizations.

  • Lead test readiness reviews, test event briefs, and post-test debriefs.

  • Provide on-site test management, data collection, and configuration control.

  • Debrief engineering and management team on results of tests.

  • Capture test failure details in deficiency reports.

  • Provide technical support to responsible engineers and communicate post-test results.

  • Estimate time required to conduct testing and complete assigned tasks within project schedule.

  • Facilitate rapid resolution of test delays that impact tasks including real-time, thorough communication with task leads, program management and other leadership, as required.

  • Collaborate daily with GA and customer engineering and program management teams.

  • Provided documentation and makes technical presentations, as required.

  • Support development, review, and editing of technical documents including test plans, procedures, and reports; pretest briefings.

  • Lead test events by capturing system test requirements; providing clear verbal direction to test team during tests; recording test failures; and reporting test results.

Job Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; 15 or more years of experience with a bachelor’s degree, 13 or more years of experience with a master’s degree, or 10 or more years of experience with a PhD.

  • May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.

  • Demonstrates a detailed and extensive technical expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice as well as project and/or program leadership including organizing, planning, scheduling, and coordinating workloads to meet established project deadlines or milestones.

  • Must possess the ability to contribute to the development of new concepts and principles; resolve unusually complex problems; serve as spokesperson on projects and/or programs; and be a technical expert in one or more areas of engineering.

  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required enabling effective leadership interface with other departments, all levels of management, professional and support staff, customers, potential customers, and government representatives.

  • Customer focused, formulates plans based on the development of innovative new designs resolving advanced technical engineering problems.

  • Must have a thorough understanding of engineering and configuration management concepts, principles, and processes.

  • Must be able to work on a self-initiated basis and in a team environment.

  • Able to work extended hours as required.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop ad hoc tests to troubleshoot test failures.

  • Demonstrated ability to independently lead a team with minimal supervision.

  • Diverse test engineering experience with a variety of electronic or mechanical systems as well as experience working in an agile and fast paced environment.

  • Ability to multi-task, demonstrate strong initiative and work ethic, and work effectively with as a senior test engineer.

  • Travel throughout the U.S. in support of testing is required.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain DoD security clearance is required
