Job Information

Applied Research Associates, Inc. Senior Computational Analyst in Huntsville, Alabama

Description

Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) is seeking a driven and talented computational physicist, engineer or mathematician to carry out mission critical digital design optimization tasks using state of the art computational design tools spanning the fields of CAD, electromagnetics, optics, radiative heat transfer, fluid dynamics and machine learning. A demonstrated background in at least two of the above listed fields is required, in addition to extensive working familiarity with CAD tools such as SolidWorks. A demonstrated background in digital design and optimization leading to successful manufacturing is strongly preferred. Irrespective of their background, the candidate will need to develop a deep familiarity with all of the design fields described above while on the job. This position will be based out of ARA's Huntsville, AL office.

The ideal candidate will provide engineering design and optimization support for various aspects of design and manufacture – including but not limited to – material selection, geometry optimization, and manufacturability. The candidate will design, develop, evaluate, and modify systems and systems-oriented products applying advanced computational methods, tools and techniques. The candidate will also work on AI based tools to perform design optimization for specific desired objectives. The candidate will assist in digital tool enhancement by providing feedback and software test support to the software development teams.

A significant portion of the candidates' activities will include active business development – both through the authorship of proposals, whitepapers, etc. and through active customer solicitation and interaction. Thus, a background in business development is strongly desired in addition to the technical skills described earlier.

What you’ll do as a Senior Computational Analyst:

  • Lead digital design space analysis using tools spanning the technical areas of CAD, Computational Electromagnetics, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Computational Heat Transfer, Computational Optimization and AI/ML

  • Design and analysis of objects for manufacturability using advanced CAD tools and software, including, as necessary the development of such tools.

  • Work with a unique group of highly skilled and experienced mathematicians, physicists, RF/antennas engineers, and computer scientists to solve complex, large-scale computational problems.

Requirements for a Senior Computational Scientist:

  • A master’s degree in physics, Mathematics and/or Engineering with a focus on computational electromagnetics, physics, fluid mechanics and/or mechanics.

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in design space analysis for manufacturing.

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in design optimization using formal optimization tools and methods.

  • Extensive and deep working familiarity with CAD and meshing concepts and tools such as SolidWorks, CATIA CUBIT, Rhino or equivalent.

  • Demonstrable deep domain expertise in at least one of the following fields: Computational Electromagnetics, Computational Fluid Dynamics, Computational Heat Transfer and/or Computational Optimization.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills: ability to clearly articulate progress or tasks in technical reports and develop technical presentations.

  • Experience with business development, proposal writing, funding and/or grant solicitation.

  • Working familiarity with Linux and HPC environments.

  • Requires little supervision in developing a milestone schedule or work plan to achieve the final task objectives in a timely manner.

Preferences for a Senior Computational Scientist:

  • Ph.D. in Physics, Mathematics and/or Engineering with a focus on computational electromagnetics, physics, fluid mechanics and/or mechanics.

  • Extensive business development expertise.

  • Deep working knowledge of multiple computational analysis fields (as described above).
