Insight Global Gas Analysis Technician in Houston, Texas

Job Description

A midstream oil and gas company in Houston, TX, is looking for a Gas Analysis Technician to join their team in the measurement lab. The Gas Analysis Technician is responsible for analyzing samples sent from the Field Operations (ex: C6+, C9+, C14, BTEX, Helium, Hydrogen and Oxygen) for all the clients assets (Natural Gas pipes). The Gas Analysis tech will also be responsible for verifying analysis records for all samples received in the lab and from other third-party gas labs. The Gas Analysis Tech will work with other business groups within the company to help ensure the accuracy of analysis for their assets. They will be working with online analyzers (ABB & Agilent) and provide support by troubleshooting, training, etc. The company is building a new training facility (classroom style). The technicians in the field will send samples to the lab, this individual will do the analysis and look at the data, see if there are issues, then send it on its way. They are providing analysis on certain types of analyzers (Daniel & Agilent).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 Perform C6+, C9+, C14, BTEX, Helium, Hydrogen and Oxygen analysis (ie. Gas Analysis) running sample bottles

 Review and interpret chromatograms to confirm that peaks are integrated properly.

 Validate historical analysis for lab and third party samples.

 Operate and maintain Daniel 500, 700 analyzers be able to troubleshoot on these analyzers

 Operate and maintain Agilent 7890A analyzers.

 Communicate with the field to resolve samples that do not match historical trends, contaminated samples, empty cylinders, etc.

 Be familiar with and follow industry standards (GPA, ASTM, and AGA) on gas analysis and sampling. Explaining in laymans terms, rules and regulations to team members

 Provide technical support to field technicians on sample procedures.

 Provide training to the field on proper sampling methods. (Training Curriculum to the field technicians)

 Perform routine audits on lab analyzers.

 Maintain and order lab calibration standards and all gases utilized in the lab.

 Outsource sulfur samples to third party labs. Send Certificate of Analysis to appropriate personnel.

 Ship and receive sample bottles for the field.

 Sample bottle cleaning and repairs.

 Effectively prioritize workload between multiple projects.

 Produce and maintain written procedures.

Skills and Requirements

-5+ years of experience related to analytical and gas measurement operation, will be considered in lieu of degree.

-Chemical and lab experience required

-Knowledge of natural gas industry particularly in the areas of gas analytics.

-Possess strong knowledge of operation for Daniel, ABB and Agilent analyzers.

-Possess knowledge of Diablo software.

-Possess a working knowledge of natural gas measurement regulatory compliance and standards relating to metrology GPA, ASTM, and AGA.

-Possess strong mechanical and electronic skills/knowledge.

-Advanced proficiency with computers particularly in Microsoft applications including Teams, Outlook, Word, Access, and Excel.

-Experience with conducting technical training classes for operations and lab personnel

-Possess excellent written and oral communication skills and communicates effectively with a variety of groups, individuals, and personalities at all levels both internal and external to the organization.

-Self-motivated, takes personal responsibility for developing proficiencies needed to effectively perform job functions.

-Ability to create professional, effective training documentation and present material in an effective manner.

-Ability to utilize advanced writing skills to create professionally written reports for management.

-Assertive in pursuing difficult issues and bringing them to a timely and thorough resolution.

-Formulates strong customer relationships with internal and external customers and provides excellent customer service by responding promptly and completely too all inquiries and requests. null
