MD Anderson Cancer Center Assistant Manager, Nurse - Gamma Knife - Radiation Oncology in Houston, Texas

Essential Job Functions:

Manages nursing administration in identification of purpose and goals of nursing service and nursing education. Plans, organizes, directs and evaluates nursing care. Coordinates staffing. Partners with leadership fostering financial stewardship towards provision of adequate personnel, supplies and equipment. Responsible for nursing care in assigned area. Counsels and evaluates nursing personnel for optimum performance. Develops and participates in orientation and in-service education programs for areas of specialization. Collaborates with faculty and assists respective area.

Clinical Care Participates in unit based clinical care of Gamma Knife suite, clinic visits and other services as determined; 50%.

Organizes workflow (contributes to on-time procedure starts, clinic appointments to foster ideal workflow and patient experience; appropriately allocates/uses and leads others to efficiently use resources (time, materials, supplies, equipment, personnel).

Function Plans, organizes, directs and evaluates individualized nursing care; nursing care management and nursing personnel management for a designated area.

Scope Impacts patient care and daily operations assigned patient care areas.

Transformational Leadership and Exemplary Professional Practice

Assists in preparation and implementation of unit nursing staffing, considering skill mix and patient care requirements. Encourages and supports the integration of innovation and research based findings into daily patient care practices. Actively participates in, assists and/or leads performance improvement projects. Trains, coaches and assists nursing staff to ensure optimum patient care and efficient use of resources. Assists with orientation, training, and nursing staff development

Empirical Outcomes and Exemplary Professional Practice Provides support to nursing staff in problem solving to meet organizational and unit goals and achieve desired outcomes

Education

Required: Bachelor of Science in Nursing.

Experience

Required: Three years of clinical nursing experience. Successful completion of the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center New Graduate Nurse Residency Program can be substituted for two of the three required years of clinical nursing experience.

Preferred : Two year's of supervisory experience in direct patient care activities. Successful completion of the LEADing Self Accelerate program may substitute for one year of required supervisory or management experience.

Certification/Licensure

Required: Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN). Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.

Preferred: American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification as required by patient care area.

Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
