MD Anderson Cancer Center Advanced Practice Provider - Stem Cell Transplantation in Houston, Texas

The mission of The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center is to eliminate cancer in Texas, the nation, and the world through outstanding programs that integrate patient care, research and prevention, and through education for undergraduate and graduate students, trainees, professionals, employees and the public.

The primary purpose of the Advanced Practice Provider, in the department Stem Cell Transplantation and Cellular Therapy, is to promote and maintain the health of SCT&CT patients across the care continuum. This position is required to work weekends per the staffing model.

KEY FUNCTIONS

Knowledge:

Demonstrates knowledge that includes an understanding of pathophysiology, patient presentation, differential diagnosis, patient management, surgical principles, health promotion, and disease prevention.

Demonstrates core knowledge about established and evolving biomedical and clinical sciences and the application of this knowledge to patient care in their area.

Demonstrates an investigatory and analytic thinking approach to clinical situations. This includes management of general medical and surgical conditions to include understanding, indication, contraindication, side effects, interactions and adverse reactions of pharmacologic agents and other relevant treatment modalities.

Demonstrates knowledge of scientific studies related to their patient's health problems.

Demonstrates an awareness of and responsiveness to the larger system of health care to provide patient care that is cost-effective and demonstrates resource allocation that does not compromise quality of care.

Patient Education:

Counsels and educates patients and their families about disease and illness in addition to providing health care services and education aimed at preventing health problems or maintaining health.

Committed to collaborative professional relationships with physicians and all members of the health care team and administration.

Demonstrates a commitment to excellence and ongoing professional development.

Engages in critical analysis of their own practice, experience, medical literature, and other information resources for the purpose of self-improvement.

Participates in processes to assess, evaluate, maintain and improve their patient care practices.

Patient Care:

Provides patient care appropriate to the population(s) served.

Demonstrates care that is effective, patient-centered, timely, efficient, and equitable for the treatment of health problems and the promotion of wellness.

Functions within their professional and personal limitations.

Demonstrates a high level of responsibility, ethical practice, sensitivity to a diverse patient population and adherence to legal and regulatory requirements.

Advocates for quality patient care and assists patients in dealing with system complexities.

Accepts responsibility for promoting a safe environment for patient care and recognizes and participates in the correction of system-based factors that negatively impact patient care.

EDUCATION

Required: Degree requirements as defined by the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) or Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners (TSBPAE) as required for clinical licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant.

EXPERIENCE

Preferred:

At least 1 year of experience in Advanced Practice Provider role.

Prior Stem Cell or Hematology experience.

LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION

Required:

Written authorization from the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) or Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners (TSBPAE) to function as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant. Related authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population.

Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.

MAY BE REQUIRED: Eligible to be granted limited prescriptive authority by the State of Texas.

Preferred:

American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification as required by patient care area.
