The Cancer Prevention Center offers a range of services to help you learn how to reduce your cancer risk or to detect cancer early.

SUMMARY

To provide direct nursing and delegated medical services to patients within the education and experience of the Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) in collaboration with physicians in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act of the State of Texas, and the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center Department of Clinical Cancer Prevention protocols. Promotes and maintains the health of the client across the health care continuum as evidenced through clinical practice, education, administrative, and research activities and professional development.

The ideal candidate will have prior Primary/Gynecology care and/or Breast/Gynecology Oncology experience.

KEY FUNCTIONS

Patient Care

Employee demonstrates population-based competencies (age-specific, diversity) that cross the continuum of care; Employee functions within their professional scope. Independently demonstrates and provides age appropriate clinical expertise in cancer prevention and detection and consultative services. Educates patients, families, individuals, and professionals on cancer prevention and risk reduction.

Research/Process Improvement

Develops and revises clinical guidelines, protocols, and procedures for various clinical services and participates in curriculum revision and development. Collaborates, initiates, and participates in cancer prevention research efforts and incorporates research into practice.

Service

Represents the Division of Cancer Prevention and M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in professional activities and maintains professional development and competency. Participates in professional activities as deemed by management (i.e., institutional committees, research projects, community speaking and marketing). Walking from clinic to off-site locations to attend meetings, provide services, and pick up/deliver various forms.

EDUCATION

Required: Degree requirements as defined by the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) or Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners (TSBPAE) as required for clinical licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant.

EXPERIENCE

Preferred:

At least 1 year of experience in Advanced Practice Provider role.

Primary/Gynecology care and/or Breast/Gynecology Oncology experience.

LICENSURE / CERTIFICATION

Required:

Written authorization from the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) or Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners (TSBPAE) to function as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant. Related authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population.

Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.

MAY BE REQUIRED: Eligible to be granted limited prescriptive authority by the State of Texas.

Preferred:

American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification as required by patient care area.
