WestRock Company Lead Maintenance Mechanic in Hicksville, New York

GENERAL PURPOSE Provide support and collaborate with existing maintenance staff, complete any paperwork required within the Maintenance group and provide regular status updates of repair activity to Plant Manager. Responsible for all general building maintenance and repairs, trouble shooting, and performing repairs on manufacturing machinery as necessary. Oversee and direct subcontractor activity. Communicate project requirements and sign off on work completed. Inspect and review completed work to ensure it is performed to satisfaction prior to sign off.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Assesses projects and collaborates with maintenance staff, leveraging the proper skill set of each employee required for successful and timely project completion.

  • Collaborates with staff and department managers to ensure we are providing adequate support and solutions that support business needs.

  • Supplies proper requisitions and completes any paperwork associated with position.

  • Identifies and performs necessary repairs and potential problems related to the safe operation of manufacturing facilities.

  • Defines and ensures standard daily work is performed to expectation.

  • Confers with management, engineering, and quality control personnel to resolve maintenance problems, and recommends measures to improve operations and conditions of machines and equipment.

  • Provides training and shares knowledge as necessary for the growth of staff; fosters and encourages an environment for team to succeed.

  • Schedules, performs, and directs repair and maintenance required on building to ensure continuous operation of the facility.

  • Ensures that workspace, machinery and tools are clean, organized and meet all safety requirements.

  • Identifies and presents potential efficiency and or cost saving measures related to manufacturing and building operations.

  • Provides and ensures general supplies are available and accessible to cleaning staff.

  • Occasionally refills supplies in rest rooms and lunch areas as required between cleaning service visits.

  • Performs light cleaning duties as required.

  • Performs other job duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have at least 2 years of experience with HVAC troubleshooting and repair.

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience with general building electrical, mechanical, general carpentry, building maintenance/repair, and machine mechanical aptitude.

  • Must have general knowledge of PLC trouble shooting and programming.

  • Must have working knowledge and experience with building electrical systems.

  • Must have basic computer skills (email, word processing, etc.)

  • Must have the ability to complete, organize, maintain and file paperwork.

  • Must be able to collaborate and lead a team, conflict resolution skills, good organization and prioritization ability.

  • Must have the ability to create, present, and maintain annual and project based budgets.

  • Must be reliable and dependable.

  • Must be willing to work overtime as needed; significant overtime may be required during busy periods.

  • Must be able to perform all essential functions of this job with or without reasonable accommodation.
