JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Department of Public Health Sciences (PHS) at the Penn State College of Medicine seeks a candidate for a Part-time Research Assistant to work with Drs. Zachary T Bitzer and Casey Pinto. This work is focused on toxins and heavy metal exposures as they relate to human health and disease.

This position focuses on conducting an in-depth analysis of the chemicals used and byproducts associated with oil and natural gas hydraulic fracturing (fracking). The part-time research assistant will conduct literature reviews focused on these chemicals and the potential health effects associated with exposure. They will assist in the interpretation of exposure hazards associated with chemicals identified in groundwater samples collected by geoscientists from areas where hydraulic fracturing is occurring. Additionally, they will help in the creation and dissemination of information highlighting the risks of exposure to different toxins to the public. Qualified individuals should have a strong interest in environmental exposures and public health.

The successful candidate will have an MS in toxicology, public health, or related field and research experience interpreting the effects of chemical exposures. Candidates should have excellent writing skills, be well organized, and able to work independently to meet time-sensitive deadlines.
