Physical Therapy Assistant - Tuckahoe Ortho - Henrico

JOB SUMMARY:

Provides patient treatment under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist. Documents patient treatment and progress toward goals in the patient’s electronic health record. Implements established treatment programs and provides patient and family education.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Administers physical therapy treatments and various modalities under the direction of a Physical Therapist.

  • Instructs, motivates, and assists patients and their families in appropriate continued physical therapy programs as well as care of and use of adaptive equipment.

  • Observes and reports patients’ responses to treatment and progress and reports orally and/or in writing to

  • the Physical Therapist.

  • Collaborates with Physical Therapist and other health team members to exchange and discuss patient information for planning, modifying, and coordinating treatment programs.

  • Assists in assessment of patient’s skills and capabilities to determine extent of abilities and limitations.

  • Supervises and oversees department rehab aides for patient care related areas.

  • Precepts in the direction and evaluation of clinical experience / internships of students from participating colleges and universities.

  • Stays abreast of current developments and new technology in physical therapy.

  • Provides formal orientation to new Physical Therapy Assistants, aides and volunteers.

  • Maintains safety of the work environment including equipment and notifies appropriate personnel if necessary.

  • Demonstrates behaviors consistent with Mission and Core Values. Adheres to standards and policies, laws and regulations. Demonstrates the ABC’s of BSMH Culture. Holds self and others accountable.

EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma/GED

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Licensed or eligible for state licensure.

  • Participation in advanced clinical practice.

  • Graduate of an accredited program.

  • Successful completion of appropriate Connect Care training modules for position/location.

SKILLS

  • Possess the knowledge and clinical skills necessary to provide PT technician care to people with physical disability and chronic illness.

  • Maintains competency as demonstrated by yearly competency evaluation.

  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age, specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in departmental policies and procedures.

  • Patient population served: Provides patient care to neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
