What you will do

Mack Trucks & Volvo Trucks North America are looking for a Counsel – Products to join our Legal team based in Greensboro, North Carolina. This position is an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to provide effective, efficient, and proactive legal support of Mack/VTNA business objectives, while minimizing reputational risk and exposure arising from legal matters related to the company’s products.

This is how you could make an impact:

• Identifying and mitigating legal risk related to products designed and assembled by Mack Trucks and Volvo Trucks North America, specifically including the management and defense of product liability and warranty litigation.

• Minimize product related and other legal claims against the companies through full compliance, timely statutory reporting and complete and accurate record keeping.

• Craft and/or review and approve the company’s legal strategy in response to litigation arising out of the company’s products.

• Coordinate with and manage outside counsel handling litigation on the company’s behalf.

• Work cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, and sales and marketing professionals to provide advice on a broad range of issues including product development, regulatory compliance, and consumer protection.

• Review advertising and marketing materials and advise the business regarding claim substantiation, disclosures, disclaimers, and related issues.

• Ensure the Legal function in North America achieves an effective balance of cost, result, and precedent; and provides timely, advice to enable Mack/VTNA to protect its rights and assets, minimize exposure to legal risks and comply with applicable law and regulations.

• Identify, quantify, and effectively communicate significant legal risk within North America to Mack/Volvo Trucks General Counsel, business partners, and insurers, making good judgments regarding when such communication is needed and how such communication is most effectively made.

• Participate in Industry/Commercial Legal organizations, on behalf of Mack/VTNA.

• Foster an environment where everyone in the Mack/VTNA Legal function recognizes his or her responsibilities and contributes to the overall business and strategic goals of Mack/VTNA.

• Promote the development of, and participate in, a committed department that works together to achieve excellence.

• Foster inclusion and diversity within the team and the organization.

Who are you?

You will hold a Juris Doctorate from an Accredited Law School and license to practice law. You will have a minimum of 5 years prior legal experience as in-house counsel or in a litigation practice, with experience in product liability defense (experience in the transportation industry or with automotive or heavy truck products work is a plus).

Additionally, you will be based in Greensboro, NC, USA, with occasional domestic and international travel required.
