Service Market Logistics (SML), part of Volvo Group Trucks Operations, serves all brands and business areas by managing and optimizing service parts availability and distribution to secure customer uptime. SML North America (NA) is a part of SML and has about 1,000 employees across the United States, Canada and Mexico. We operate the Central Distribution Center in Byhalia, MS as well as Regional Distribution Centers across the NA region.

Mission/Purpose of the Position

The Data Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable data solutions on the Azure platform. You will play a crucial role in collaborating with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements, design efficient data models, and develop robust pipelines to enable data-driven decision-making across the organization.

Scope & Influence

This position reports to the Manager, Digital Transformation, Development & Analytics. The position is located in Greensboro, NC.

Essential Functions

• Collaborate with stakeholders to gather and understand data requirements, translating them into technical solutions.

• Design, develop, and optimize data pipelines using Azure services such as Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, and Azure Synapse Analytics.

• Implement data ingestion processes from various sources including databases, APIs, and streaming platforms.

• Develop and maintain data transformation and enrichment processes to ensure data quality and consistency.

• Build and manage data storage solutions using Azure Blob Storage, Azure SQL Database, and Azure Cosmos DB.

• Implement security measures to protect sensitive data and ensure compliance with regulations such as GDPR and HIPAA.

• Monitor and optimize the performance of data pipelines to meet SLAs and scalability requirements.

• Work closely with data scientists and analysts to deploy machine learning models and enable advanced analytics.

• Document technical specifications, data flows, and system architectures to ensure effective knowledge transfer and maintainability.

• Stay updated on the latest Azure technologies and best practices in data engineering to drive innovation and efficiency.

Who are you?

Minimum Education and Experience

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.

• Proven experience as a data engineer with a focus on Azure cloud platform.

• Proficiency in SQL and experience with relational database systems.

• Strong programming skills in languages such as Python or Java is desired.

• Experience with building custom DevOps processes and DevOps boards for tracking project life cycle, teams' velocity, collaboration, and integration.

• Familiarity with data governance, data security, and compliance standards.

• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience with Volvo Production System

• Experience with Volvo legacy software like SPOT, VIPS, GLOPPS etc.

• Experience with SAP modules.

• Previous experience with Warehouse Management System(s)

• Previous experience with working in a supply chain environment

Necessary Technical/Functional/Language Skills

• As all documentation is in English, proficiency in the English language is required

• Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to network effectively across a diverse organization and build enduring relationships across functional and geographical areas

• Strong personal integrity and credibility

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities

• Excellent understanding for data literacy and digitalization in the workplace along with the mindset to drive the digital transformation within the teams

• Basic understanding of BI tools, databases, workflows and automation

• Excellent organizational and planning skills

• Inspiring leadership and the ability to demonstrate a clear vision

• Skilled in recruitment, development, and management of talent

• Energy, drive, and the courage to lead and deal with conflict management

• Strong customer knowledge and focus with continuous drive for customer improvement

• Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office 365)
