This is a 9-month tenure track Assistant/Associate Professor position in the Department of Kinesiology at North Carolina A&T State University. The successful candidate will be expected to establish an independent externally funded research program. The candidate will contribute to the research, teaching, advising, and service needs of the department.

The primary responsibilities for this position include: (1) conducting research in area of interest, grant writing, and publishing scholarly articles (2) teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in exercise physiology, fitness assessment, strength and conditioning, and anatomy and physiology (3) advising and mentoring students, and (4) service to the department, College, University, and professional communities. Other responsibilities include, curriculum development, recruitment, program assessment, and engaging in accreditation procedures.

North Carolina A & T State University is a public land grant high research institution that is committed to teaching and learning, scholarly and creative research, and effective engagement and public service.

The John R. and Kathy R. Hairston College of Health and Human Sciences ( HCHHS ) is comprised of the departments Kinesiology, Psychology, Social Work and Sociology, as well as the School of Nursing. The HCHHS capitalizes on the synergistic relationships between these departments to develop advanced academic health science programming, enhance the training of healthcare practitioners, and conduct collaborative multidisciplinary research and scholastic activity.

The Department of Kinesiology is one of the largest departments on campus with current enrollment of over 700 students. The Department of Kinesiology trains evidence-based leaders and practitioners in the sub-fields of Kinesiology, meeting the needs of people who are apparently healthy, at risk, and with known disease(s). The Kinesiology faculty possess a wide depth of knowledge in areas such as physical therapy, exercise science, adaptive physical education, sports management, recreation and leisure studies, exercise immunology, health and wellness, nutrition and community health. We currently offer a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Kinesiology with two concentrations: (1) Exercise Science and (2) Recreation Sport Management. Kinesiology graduates are prepared to pursue entry level positions within the sport and recreation management, rehabilitation, recreation, and healthcare fields. The Kinesiology degree also prepares students who desire to pursue advanced graduate degrees in disciplines such as athletic training, physical therapy, sport management, public health, therapy, recreation and leisure studies and more.

Requirements:

Doctoral degree in a Kinesiology related discipline and record of scholarly activity commensurate with appointment at the Assistant/Associate Professor rank by the anticipated date of appointment (ABD’s will be considered). Demonstrable evidence of preparedness to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the discipline and establish an independent research program.

· Proven teaching record in kinesiology related disciplines

· Evidence of student advising and mentoring

· Postdoctoral training

· Commitment to advancing the academic and professional success of historically underrepresented populations in kinesiology related fields
