Position title: Practice Leader

Position Summary:

Works in a dyad leadership role with the Lead Physician to achieve an excellent patient-centered experience, superior health outcomes, and optimal financial performance in order to further the mission of the organization. Provides leadership to support the efficient and effective operational and financial performance of the designated practice/specialty as well as supporting the goals of the organization including: lean processes and change management, planning, human resource management, financial accountability, facility oversight, quality assessment and improvement, regulatory compliance, and productivity management. Responsible for developing and implementing the department specific tactical plan that is in alignment with the overall integrated health system strategic plan. Collaborates with a care team of clinical, administrative, and medical staff to guide continual process improvement initiatives in the adoption of evidence-based practice.

What the Practice Leader will need:

  • Minimum: Bachelor’s degree or demonstrated progressive leadership responsibility, experience, and education. Preferred: Bachelor's degree in the clinical discipline appropriate to the clinical area for specified area.

  • Minimum: Two years of leadership experience

  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills for contacts with internal and external customers/stakeholders to obtain and interpret a variety of information based on knowledge of departmental practices, and Trinity Health Medical Group policies and programs and specific technical and regulatory knowledge. Discretion must be exercised in deciding what and how to communicate; conflict resolution skills must be exercised where policy issues are concerned both within the functional area and interdepartmentally. Diplomacy, tact and listening skills are required. Ability to read, interpret and write technical materials.

  • Project management skills including the ability to implement program, project, or process objectives, identify stakeholders and their interests, plan steps, coordinate and allocate human, technological and fiscal resources to accomplish goals and objectives in a resourceful yet timely manner. Ability to develop, implements, and administer budgets.

  • Leadership skills including willingness to pursue leadership roles with increasing levels of accountability comfort with decision-making responsibilities, coaching, mentoring, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others and to forge alliances and garner support.

  • Analytical and critical thinking skills including the ability to create solutions to difficult operational, technical or human situations, to anticipate and resolve a broad range of issues and concerns on multiple, sometimes unrelated, topics, to determine the need for process development and refinement, to independently evaluate situations and outline ramifications of multiple solutions or options, to recommend goals for a function/area and understand when intervention in current work processes must occur to ensure successful delivery of service.

  • Ability to comfortably interact with diverse populations.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment with a strong customer service orientation

  • Ability to handle patient and organizational information in a confidential manner

  • Creative and able to identify and use innovative approaches for leading a health care team

What the Practice Leader will do:

  • In collaboration with the Lead Physician, promotes the organizational mission, guiding behaviors, values, initiatives, and a just and safe culture.

  • Ensures patient accessibility and continuity of care.

  • Develops an operating practice budget in collaboration with the care management team, administration and other practice leaders. Accountable to make operational adjustments to achieve positive financial outcomes (i.e. Site Action Plans, Staff and Physician Productivity).

  • Provides leadership for Electronic Health Record including implementation, ongoing maintenance, and upgrade process.

  • Partners with the care management team and Professional Billing Team to ensure that all revenue cycle management thresholds are met. Charges are accurately coded and posted to the patient account in a timely manner (i.e. % collections, missing encounters, insurance errors report).

  • Shows initiative and creativity in problem solving through active collaboration with members of the health care team, sees what needs to be done, brings it to the attention of individual(s) who can get it done, or independently does it without being asked or told.

  • Provides effective employee resource management, including appropriate staff scheduling, hiring, training, evaluating, mentoring, coaching, and disciplinary processes.

  • Mentors staff to achieve expected professional and clinical behaviors by clarifying expectations, giving objective feedback, coaching, and reinforcing appropriately.

  • Effectively communicates, collaborates and develops relationships through engagement of the care management team members and administration regarding operations and excellent patient-centered care.
