Metro Health Patient Registration Representative in Grand Rapids, Michigan

Metro Health now the University of Michigan Health-West is looking for Patient Registration Rep. - Patient Access - (SIGN-ON BONUS ELIGIBLE)

  • Shift Varies - 40hrs/wk 

    • Days - 40hrs/wk.  Shift: Days - This position has a schedule of Monday/Tuesday/Thursday/Friday from 7:30am - 6:00pm and works every 6th Saturday from 7:00am - 4:30pm.
    • Days - 40hrs/wk. Shift: Days  This position will have a schedule of Week 1: Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday and Week 2: Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 5:00am - 3:30pm.
  • Nights - 40hrs.wk. Shift: Nights - This position has a schedule of Week 1: Saturday, Sunday, Wednesday, and Thursday and Week 2: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 7:00pm - 5:30am.

    • Days - 40hrs/wk.  Shift: Days This position has a schedule of Week 1: Monday (5am-3:30pm), Tuesday (9am-7:30pm), Thursday (5am-3:30pm), and Saturday (9am-7:30pm) and Week 2: Sunday (9am-7:30pm), Monday (5am-3:30pm), Tuesday (5am-3:30pm), and Thursday (9am-7:30pm).

General Summary:

Under the direction of the Manager -- Patient Access, the Patient Registration Representative is responsible for obtaining demographic and insurance information from patients and/or their representatives to ensure prompt financial reimbursement.

Requirements:

  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • College education of 1-2 years, preferred.
  • Previous experience in registration, billing, and/or administrative role in a hospital or medical office preferred.
  • Previous experience utilizing medical terminology preferred.
  • ICD-10 and/or CPT-4 coding, preferred.
  • Certified Healthcare Associate Certification (CHAA), preferred.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Welcome and greet all patients and visitors utilizing AIDET, in person and/or over the phone.
  2. Ensure accurate demographic and insurance information is obtained from the patient and/or their representative.
  3. Verify patient insurance is active through Real Time Eligibility (if RTE is down must utilize insurance websites).
  4. Complete Epic WQs daily.
  5. Collaborate with all departments to ensure applicable protocols and processes are followed.
  6. Schedule walk-in testing for patients, when applicable.
  7. Collect patient co-pays, deductibles and any outstanding balances.
  8. Responsible for daily cash reconciliation and balancing of cash drawer.
  9. Required to work on-call and holiday schedules.
  10. Utilize a workstation on wheels (WOW) at the bedside to perform registration, as needed.
  11. Performs other duties as assigned. These may include but are not limited to: Maintaining a current knowledge base of department processes, protocols and procedures, pursuing self-directed learning and continuing education opportunities, and participating on committees, task forces, and work groups as determined by management.
