DESCRIPTION

About the Position

This is the second level of the Maintenance series responsible for providing first line supervision and operational management of skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled staff who are assigned to one or more operational divisions in the Public Works Department. Supervisors direct the work of at least two or more other full-time employees or their equivalent; and have the authority to hire or fire other employees, or their suggestions and recommendations as to the hiring, firing, advancement, promotion or any other change of status of other employees are given particular weight; and the primary duty is supervising maintenance activities.

Typical job duties for this position :

  • Overseeing solid waste transfer and/or landfill site operations

  • prioritizing, planning and assigning work

  • planning maintenance and site improvement projects at Waste Management sites

  • coordinating with technical staff, regulators and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with permit requirements

  • Conducting performance evaluations; ensuring compliance with applicable safety practices

  • Responding to emergency calls during and/or after normal work hours

  • Responding to Waste Management complaints and concerns

  • Ordering parts, supplies, materials, and services

  • Scheduling shipments of waste and recyclables

  • Maintaining a healthy and safe working environment and

  • Making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.

About the Division

WASTE MANAGEMENT: The Division of Waste Management oversees the management of solid recycling and solid waste in Lane County. The Division’s mission is to provide, safe, responsible and economical recycling and disposal services, while respecting the environment and the communities it serves.

Schedule: Starting schedule Monday through Thursday, 7 am – 5:30 pm. Will periodically rotate schedules with the other (Wed – Sat) Transfer Ops supervisor.

This is an Admin-Pro represented position

QUALIFICATIONS

Training:

  • Up to one year of technical or specialized training beyond high school; and 5 or more years of progressively responsible maintenance experience related to area of assignment.

Experience:

  • At least 1 year of lead level experience.

  • Sr. Supervisor (N4320) – 5-8 years progressively responsible programmatic management and responsible supervisory experience related to area of assignment.

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

DRIVER’S LICENSE

  • Must be in possession of a valid driver's license at time of application, and a valid Oregon Driver's license by time of appointment.

  • Class A CDL or the ability to obtain one/
