Copper River Native Association, Inc. Family Nurse Practitioner in Glennallen, Alaska

SUMMARY

This position is responsible for providing comprehensive medical, preventive, and therapeutic health care services by delivering primary care in a clinic-centered approach with home visits and community outreach.

JOB DUTIES

  • Manage the overall medical needs of patients. Assess health status and health practices of individuals and families through health histories, observation, and physical examinations. Identify health needs, develop, and implement health care treatment plans with periodic follow-up.
  • Prescribe specific drugs and treatment for common health problems.
  • Order and perform laboratory tests and evaluate results, and order other laboratory/diagnostic procedures and interpret results.
  • Assure coordination of patient follow up with Community Health Aides and the RN Case Manager.
  • Establish and maintain patient medical records and charts in the E.H.R, ensuring compliance with Indian Health Services directives.
  • Establish and maintain a network of collaborative relationships with private physicians, IHS, and tribal and non-tribal health service providers.
  • Provide referrals to local providers and specialty clinics when services are not available within the CRNA clinics.
  • Provide guidance and coordination of the organizations vaccination program.
  • Provide guidance and support to the Community Health Aide Program.
  • Schedule the workload, assure the adequacy of supplies, aid in maintaining clinic procedures, coordinate medical services, plan and evaluate clinic services, and implement necessary care.
  • In conjunction with medical, pharmacy, dental and behavioral health staff, assist with the development of the appropriate formulary for the Health Services Department.
  • Provide home visits as needed.
  • Implement community programs and function as a consultant for tribal programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Strong understanding and sensitivity to Alaska Native culture and lifestyle, with demonstrated experience working effectively with Alaska Native population.
  • Highly self-motivated and detail-oriented.
  • Exceptional time management skills and discipline.
  • Strong written, analytical, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective oral and written communications skills with sensitivity to lifestyles of targeted participants.
  • Ability to keep accurate records and produce timely and accurate written reports.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality as required for HIPAA, other regulations and organization matters.
  • Ability to learn and apply program/agency operating policies and procedures.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks concurrently and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships, including outside contacts.
  • Ability to work independently as well as with teams.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduate of an accredited ARNP-FNP program.
  • Licensed in Alaska as a Board Certified Family Nurse Practitioner
  • ACLS, BLS, and PALS certification required within one year of hire.
  • Maintain DEA number.
  • Strong physical assessment, oversight, and teaching skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two years of experience in a rural health care setting.
  • Two years of experience as a Mid-Level Practitioner (MLP).
