Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree from an ARC-PA accredited Physician Assistant (PA) program / Advanced practice Registered Nurse (APRN) program with a national certification or degree in a similar field preferred.

  • Must possess current licensure as a Registered Nurse and/or Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the State of Texas. Minimum of five (5) years’ experience as an Advanced Practice Provider and two (2) years of leadership or supervisory experience in either an ambulatory or ancillary setting.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Health Care Administration, or equivalent.

  • Minimum of seven (7) years’ experience as an Advanced Practice Provider and two (2) years health care management and/or leadership experience, preferably in an outpatient setting, with supervisory experience.

  • Nurse Practitioner Applicants - Completion of a graduate level (or higher) nurse practitioner program accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

  • Physician Assistant Applicants - Completion a physician assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA)

Job Summary:

The Manager, Advanced Practice Provider is a matrix position with responsibilities as a clinical practice manager and an advanced practice provider. Primary responsibilities include the operational oversight of a multidisciplinary practice and direct patient care under the direction of a physician.

Job Duties:

The Manager, Advanced Practice Provider is a hybrid position with responsibilities as a Clinic Practice Manager and an Advanced Practice Provider that will oversee the operations of the multidisciplinary Comprehensive Women’s Health Clinic located at UTMB Health’s Clear Lake Campus. As Clinical Practice Manager, this position oversees and manages the Comprehensive Women’s Health Clinic in collaboration with Academic Enterprise and Health System leadership to deliver quality patient care and an exceptional patient experience. As a Women’s Health Advanced Practice Provider, this position is responsible for patient care under the direction of a physician to include managing the medical aspects of care in the observation, assessment, diagnosis, intervention, evaluation, rehabilitation, care and counsel, and health teachings of persons who are ill, injured or infirm or experiencing changes in normal health processes; and in the promotion and maintenance of health of prevention of illness in a clinical setting.

Women’s Health Clinical Practice Manager (40%)

  • Operational and clinical oversight of a multidisciplinary clinical practice with specialties and sub-specialties including obstetrics and gynecology, behavioral health, dermatology, plastic surgery, and cardiology.

  • Personnel Management

  • Defines non-clinical personnel requirements and position competencies for the practice jointly with the practice management team and Group Practice.

  • Monitors and maintains staffing levels and adjusts as appropriate to meet various clinical care and financial objectives.

  • Objectively evaluates/documents performance of personnel and takes corrective action as appropriate.

  • Administrative and Medical Liaison

  • Participates in group practice, clinical department, and hospital-wide programs and work groups affecting the delivery of care and business practices.

  • Finance/Account Management

  • Works with the practice management team to develop/modify supply, personnel, capital equipment, and special program budgets under the guidance of Administration.

  • Monitors revenue and expense budgets on an on-going basis and takes appropriate action to ensure practice is within budget guidelines.

  • Ensures appropriate information is gathered and transmitted in support of billing functions.

  • Leadership

  • Creatively identifies opportunities for improvement in all aspects of practice.

  • Facilitates patient flow communication and problem resolution.

  • Assists with implementation of policies and programs.

  • Serves as resource person and role model for staff.

  • Program Development and Project Coordination

  • Serves, as requested, on task forces, work groups, or committees.

  • Networks with other areas and services to further program development.

  • Leads/participates, as appropriate, in collaborative team approaches to developing and enhancing an integrated system of care.

  • Works with projects to a timely resolution and completes assignments according to agreed upon deadlines.

  • Communication

  • Effectively communicates with medical, clinical, clerical staff, and other stakeholders to ensure the efficient operations of the medical practice.

  • Effectively communicates with patients and visitors to resolve inquiries (billing, scheduling, et al).

  • Maintenance of Environment and Security:

  • Identifies and promptly addresses unsafe practices and other safety issues in the medical practice.

  • Ensures staff participation in all fire safety, infection control and other mandatory training.

  • Medical Office / Administrative Policies:

  • Assists in the development and implementation of medical office or administrative policies related to the delivery of care and/or business practices of the medical practice as appropriate.

  • Continuing Education

  • Actively participates in continuing education activities.

  • Prepares and presents information to co-workers after attending special programs and workshops as appropriate.

Women’s Health Advanced Practice Provider (60%)

  • Performs routine gynecologic and preventive healthcare for women seen in the clinic.

  • Obtains medical histories, organizes relevant data, performs physical examinations, and suggests pertinent laboratory, radiographic or other studies that are needed to establish or support a diagnosis.

  • Performs preliminary reviews of radiographs, laboratory data, ECG’s and other relevant clinical information; formulates and orders (Physician Assistant / Nurse Practitioner license) therapeutic regimens for treatment of pathologic states or disabling entities.

  • Documents histories, physical examinations, and relevant clinical information, ensuring adequate documentation of existing medical conditions; medically classifies patients according to physical, functional and emotional capabilities.

  • Monitors treatment progress and protocols of patients in chronic care clinical settings; counsels patients on preventive medicine regimens; reviews medical records or therapeutic regimens to insure proper content and appropriateness of medical regimen.

  • Provides patient counseling and health instruction about medical problems, nutrition, medication and principles of health promotion and maintenance.

  • Serves as representative and emissary of the physician in delegated matters of related duties as required. Interdisciplinary coordination and clinical care responsibilities.

  • Documents all health care encounters and relevant clinical information in the electronic medical records.

  • Identifies appropriate internal controls for department; provides mechanisms to monitor and enforce compliance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA, MHA, or related area.

  • Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant or Family Nurse Practitioner with a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in women’s health.

Salary Range:

Actual salary commensurate with experience.
