  • Job Summary*

The Emergency Director will provide administrative oversight and direction for the department at Valley View Medical Center. This director will provide accountability for planning, directing, leading and evaluating nursing care within the department. Consults with Chief Nursing Officer on nursing problems and interpretation of hospital policies to ensure patient needs are met.

Promotes the mission, vision and values of the organization

Develops and implements departmental goals, plans, and standards consistent with the clinical,administrative, legal, and ethical requirements/objectives of the organization.Oversees the daily workflow, staffing, orientation, training and development of employees within the departmentResponsible for the ongoing quality/performance improvement processes related to the Emergency DepartmentFacilitates ED staff meetings and participates in other committees, task forces as assigned.Promote and support a collaborative team approach in providing care for all ED patientsSupports and interprets policies, procedures, philosophy and objectives of the hospitalMonitors customer satisfaction scores and implements plans to improve themMonitor patient volumes, quality of care, and performance of staff to identify areas for improvementResponsible for investigating patient, physician and staff complaints and concerns and works to resolve themComplete annual performance evaluation for self and employees and implement plans of correction when neededUse problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships with team membersMaintain required competencies for self and all employees within the department

Prepares, monitors, and evaluates departmental budgets, and ensures that the department operates in compliance with allocated funding. Coordinates and directs internal/external audits.

Directs and evaluates departmental operations, including patient care delivery, information technologies, service level determination, and complaint management, to achieve performance and quality control objectives.

Creates and fosters an environment that encourages professional growth.

Integrates evidence-based practices into operations and clinical protocols.

Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.Collaborates with other members of the nursing management team to develop, revise, or implement standards of care, standards of practice, and policies and procedures.Collaborates with Human Resources in the activities surrounding interviewing, hiring, counseling, evaluating and assessing competency of staff.Ensures documentation meets current standards and policies.

Professional Requirements:Completes annual education requirements.Maintains regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and The Joint Commission regulations.Works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians, departments and staff.Resolves personnel concerns at the departmental level, partnering others as needed.Ensures compliance with policies and procedures regarding department operations, fire, safety and infection control.Effectively and consistently communicates administrative directive to personnel and encourages interactive departmental meetings and discussions.

Minimum EducationX High School Diploma/GED or Equivalent - Required X Bachelor’s degree - Required X Master's degree - Preferred

Required SkillsRequires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action. Certifications:X Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) American Heart Association - Required(If employee has ACLS, BLS is not required)X Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) American Heart Association - RequiredX TNCC - PreferredCompetencies:X APEX Innovations within 30 days of hire and annual completion thereafter

Required Licenses[Arizona, United States] Registered Nurse - Required RN licensure in good standing. Multi-State Licensure accepted.
