Harris & Associates Field Engineer/Inspector in Fresno, California

Harris is a 100% employee-owned company focused on solving today's complex challenges in planning, design, and construction of public infrastructure.

We are hiring for the  $1.6 billion High Speed Rail project that is constructing the first high-speed rail system in our nation. Harris & Associates and PGH Wong are the joint-venture team working for the California High Speed Rail Authority to deliver the first 29-mile segment of this historic project—which has become a model for success across the United States. 

Position Summary

The Field Engineer will be responsible for supporting the Construction Manager, on-site, in seeing that the project is constructed in accordance with the approved plans and specifications.  

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide photographic records.

  • Be able to read and understand architectural, structural, and civil drawings

  • Be able to redline drawings and pictures using adobe acrobat

  • Track completed work; and assist in reviewing contractor’s progress payments

  • Provide field support services for submittals, RFIs, and requests for contract change orders.

  • Notify the resident engineer of any observed non-conformances and assist in the issuance of non-conformance reports as required. 

  • Participate in and/or conduct planning, preconstruction, coordination, progress, scheduling and field staff meetings.

  • Review plans, specifications, submittals, shop drawings, change orders, constructability reviews and contract closeout records.

  • Assist in detecting and resolving disputes and/or problems

  • Respond to complaints from the public

  • Ensure that all required tests, operations, measurements, and inspections are scheduled, ordered, staff working on progress payments by verifying and preparing quantity and progress estimates.

  • Maintain records on unit price quantities, labor, equipment and progress for change order work.

  • Review change orders for implementation.

  • Make field measurements and maintain as-built drawing records.

  • Conduct and/or witness testing of contract material, equipment, and installations.

  • Report safety and traffic hazards, defective work and debris to the contractor for correction.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum 7 years of relevant work experience

  • 5+ years of verifiable full-time experience in construction inspection work, including two years of experience as a construction inspector working in an urban environment.

  • Familiarity with transit industry standards, practices, and regulations is helpful.

  • Valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record

Skills and Competencies:

  • Potential to perform in a lead capacity.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Must be proficient in the use of Excel and MSWord.

  • Ability to work in a cooperative team environment.

    Compensation & Benefits

    Salary $120K-$170K B.O.E
