Building Engineer

Job Description

The Building Engineer will focus on operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing facility equipment and systems. You will demonstrate technical expertise in one craft area (Electrical, HVAC, Piping/Plumbing, Central Utility Plant Operations) while being multi-skilled in others to successfully complete daily and weekly work assignments.

Responsibilities

  • Assume responsibility for completion of assigned tasks.

  • Perform maintenance, monitoring, and repairs to Mechanical, Plumbing, Structural, Furniture, Fire, Life Safety, and Control systems to keep facility and building systems up to applicable standards.

  • Maintain responsibility for facility services, preventative maintenance, purchasing and inventory control, contracted maintenance, general maintenance, and technical proficiency.

  • Clean, inspect, calibrate, and change parts to maintain HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, FLS, Lighting, Emergency, and other systems and associated equipment at optimum performance levels.

  • Respond to emergencies in a timely manner.

  • Replace lights, ballasts, and fixtures.

  • Repair motors, pumps, and plumbing for water supply, boilers, and other equipment.

  • Prepare reports, maintain inventories, and keep accurate records; order equipment and supplies.

  • Review monthly client service request summaries to pinpoint and correct recurrent operational problems.

  • Evaluate vendors and suppliers regularly regarding quality, reporting, and competitive pricing.

  • Verify the accuracy of deliveries for count, pricing, and description where parts are requested for maintenance activities.

  • Record readings and make adjustments to ensure proper operation of equipment.

  • Comply with departmental policy for safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials; maintain a clean and safe workplace.

  • Perform periodic checks of tool and instrument inventory.

  • Monitor the quality and pricing of maintenance work performed by outside contractors.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • HVAC Universal (608) Certification

  • Minimum of 3+ years of applicable working experience in building repair and maintenance, plumbing, and electrical within Large Commercial OR Industrial settings

  • Ability to analyze the operation of various systems, determine the cause of any problems/malfunctions, and take corrective action as required

  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with the customer and represent the company onsite

Work Environment

This position will be onsite at a plastics manufacturing company in Franklin, IN. You will be around manufacturing equipment in a mild noise level setting and must comply with FDA regulations. Wearing a hair and beard net (if applicable) and steel toe boots will be required.
