Overview

Systems Administrator (BAMC)

Bowhead seeks a Systems Administrator to join our team in supporting the Department of Logistics Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) in Fort Sam Houston, TX.

Responsibilities

Job duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Must have the capability to Install hardware and software, maintain network operations, and ensures that inquiries and problems concerning networks, computers, peripherals, and services are expeditiously resolved.

  • Install network software and equipment and changes out the components of existing equipment with components provided by the government or from the original equipment manufacturer.

  • Maintain procedures for networks, systems operations, database management, and product assembly and installation.

  • Monitor operation of the network and ensures that hardware and software are functioning properly and that operation standards are met.

  • Provide guidance on technical aspects of networks and ADP equipment. Maintain an inventory of all network hardware and software.

  • Responds to users' requests for assistance in a timely manner.

  • Identifies and determines problem and the corrective action to be taken in case of hardware/ software failure or in circumstances when prescribed procedures will not produce desired results.

  • Performs system backups to insure expedient restoration of the database for the respective network equipment.

  • Coordinates support actions with user, management, contractor personnel and higher levels as required.

  • Troubleshoots all aspects of the system to include hardware, software, and communications lines.

  • Develops user guides on applications systems, information retrieval, and communications hardware and software.

  • The contractor will assist government representatives in training users on generalized software, including operating system commands and procedures and system utilities and maintain a continuing awareness of technical changes in the areas of equipment technology and software development.

  • Provide desk-side support services to end-users in the use of installation standard application software.

  • Maintain a thorough working knowledge of the installation's standard networking hardware and software products and technical proficiency by attending expositions, meetings and review of current communications and computer literature.

  • Conduct studies and analyze assigned installation equipment and software reliability and utilization reports to identify and correct problem areas.

  • Analyze present networks and systems to ensure proper utilization. Notes trends in the type and frequency of errors. Recommends changes needed to ensure that optimum effectiveness.

  • Conduct network system security support functions.

  • Provide assistance in maintaining and establishing Supply Chain Managements Point of Use (POU) PYXIS account restrictions, user rights, password controls, and procedures.

  • Maintain Supply Chain Managements Point of Use (PYXIS) user access controls (physical, personnel, software, and information security) using applicable security procedures. Ensures that planned and actual software and equipment installations are accomplished in accordance with applicable security policies and regulations.

  • Participate in Supply Chain Managements Point of Use (POU) system acceptability testing and implementation. Meet frequently with other programmers and functional area specialists to coordinate work and resolve problems.

  • Assist government representative in evaluating test results and initiates corrective actions.

Qualifications

  • Two to three (2-3) years of professional experience.

  • Demonstrates strong troubleshooting skills along with strong analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Must have the ability to multi-task and assist others to resolve IT related issues is essential.

  • Knowledge in the installation, maintenance, and administration of computer systems in a LAN/WAN environment highly sought.

  • Requires a strong understanding of current Microsoft supported Windows operating systems.

  • An understanding of Linux operating systems is desirable; but not required.

  • Requires a high level of competency in both written and oral communications skills is strongly desired with ability to work in a team environment.

  • DoD Directive 8570.1 Information Assurance Technical Level II certification preferred (i.e., Security+ CE, GSEC, SSCP, or CCNA-Security).

  • Familiarity with the Department of Defense (DOD) networking and security accreditation processes and procedures is preferred.

  • A working knowledge of Windows Active Directory is required.

  • A working knowledge of current Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) and Risk Management Framework (RMF).

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to lift up to 10-15 pounds

  • Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time

  • Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Must currently hold a security clearance at the Secret level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
