The strategy focuses on accelerating the transition to a data-centric organization that uses data for operational advantage and increased efficiency.

MITRE’s Army Division has openings in computer science, software engineering or similar degree programs to work the full software engineer life cycle on a variety of cutting-edge projects. These software engineering projects are in information warfare, command and control, fire support (artillery), smart munitions, intelligence and much more. The technical work areas include software development that include web development, software testing such as performance testing, requirements development, UML for software designs, and data modeling/management. Modern technologies such as React, Node.js, Angular, Protobuf, git, NOSQL, Atlassian, Slack, and more are utilized. Opportunities in research and development exist in such areas as Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Natural Language Processing, and Distributed Computing to support the Army command, control, communications, and intelligence capabilities of the future!

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Execute full software engineering life cycle processes (concept vision through test)

  • Develop software using Agile processes and tools (JIRA, git, Jenkins/gradle, and more)

  • Deliver software designs and prototypes.

  • Evaluate technologies and Commercial products for potential military applicability.

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a similar degree with 5 years of related experience; or 3 years and a Master’s degree or a PhD with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.

  • Knowledge of data integration tools, data modeling, and database management systems is also required. Familiarity with data mesh principles and technologies like microservices, containerization, and cloud computing is a must.

  • Programming Language experience with either

  • Java or similar object-oriented language

  • JavaScript and HTML for web development

  • Python

  • Familiarity with serialization formats including JSON, XML, and Google Protobuf

  • Understanding of software design patterns and best practices

  • Understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle

  • Experience with Linux

  • Experience with containerization technologies to include Docker and Kuberbetes

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary for documenting processes, collaborating with team members, and explaining complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Active Secret Clearance is required with the ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI

  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site presence.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with client and server-side JavaScript, MVC frameworks, React, and Node.js

  • Building software with languages/frameworks such as Maven and Gradle

  • Machine Learning experience or course work

  • Understanding of databases (relational or NOSQL)

  • Technical writing skills such as drafting software designs and technical guidance

  • Experience or understanding of all phases of the Software or Systems Development Life Cycle

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret/SCI Clearance.
