Minimum Qualifications:

• Physician licensed to practice medicine in Michigan as an M.D. or D.O.
• Licensed by the State of Michigan Pharmacy Board as a dispensing provider

AND ONE of the following:

• Board certified in preventative medicine or public health;
• Holds an M.P.H. or M.S.P.H. degree with a minimum of two (2) years of public health practice;
• Three (3) years of public health practice and 24 graduate credits towards a public health degree.

General Statement of Duties:

The Medical Director provides professional leadership in formulating medical public policy and program operations. Responsibilities include developing and implementing medical policies, offering medical consultation, ensuring quality assurance, and supporting various health programs. This role reports directly to the Administrative Health Officer and serves as their principal assistant in departmental administration.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Extensive knowledge of modern medicine, especially in contagious disease diagnosis, treatment, and control.
• Familiarity with state and local public health laws.
• Strong leadership skills demonstrated through initiative and accomplishment.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative in problem-solving.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to relate to people and supervise others effectively.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a diverse, multicultural environment that values equity and inclusion.
