The Registered Nurse (RN) Diabetes Educator will provide direct patient care mostly in an outpatient setting providing diabetes education. Travel to outreach locations may be required. The RN Diabetes Educator will provide compassion and be committed to helping patients improve their health by providing practical care and education, based on accepted standards. The RN diabetes educator will work closely with all members of the multidisciplinary health care team, including dietitians. The RN Diabetes Educator reports directly to the Clinical Dietitian Supervisor/Diabetes Coordinator and the Nutrition Services Director. The RN Diabetes Educator will have contact with patients, nurses, physicians, department directors, hospital employees, patients' families, and the public. Effective interpersonal communication and educational skills are essential to this position. The RN Diabetes Educator must maintain confidentiality and be self-directed.
