Otter Tail County Recycling Route Specialist (Film Plastics) in Fergus Falls, Minnesota

Otter Tail County is accepting applications for a part-time Film Plastics Recycling Route Specialist. The purpose of this position is to increase recycling of film plastics in the counties of Otter Tail, Todd, and Wadena. The Film Plastics Recycling Route Specialist will collect agricultural plastic from farms, boat wrap from marinas, and other eligible plastic in a packer truck and deliver plastic to one of two baling hubs located in Sauk Centre or Detroit Lakes. This position will provide collection service to locations in Otter Tail, Todd, and Wadena Counties. Schedules collection of film plastic from collection sites. o Tracks generation at each collection site and forecasts need for future collection. o Determines the most expedient route and times for pick up or delivery. o Contacts and discusses needs of customer. o Assists with education and training of customers regarding program requirements and methods of preparing materials for collection. Executes daily routes and schedules. o Performs daily DOT vehicle inspection. o Drives to designated locations with a front or rear load packer truck; or other equipment and loads material into the vehicle. o Revises the schedule according to weather conditions and amount of container usage. o Revises the schedule around holidays, vacations, and driver availability. o Maintains a schedule to return to the Otter Tail County Recycling Center on time. o Transports materials to a regional baling facility. Maintains a route record. Provides routine and minor maintenance for truck and dumpsters. o Schedules major maintenance with program manager. o Orders parts. o Performs maintenance on dumpsters as needed. Communication o Reports site related or contamination issues to program manager. o Coordinates with solid waste supervisors in Todd and Wadena counties as needed. o Communicates with baling facilities about delivery dates, times, and quantities. May assist with other duties within the Solid Waste Department, including at Transfer Stations, the Recycling Center, or in Household Hazardous Waste. May assist with duties and responsibilities as outlined in the County Emergency Operations Plan and Continuity of Operations Plan. This position is regularly scheduled to work approximately 20 hours per week, ideally split into 2-10 hour days. Preferred working days are Tuesdays and Wednesdays, but can be negotiated. The 2024 starting salary for this position is $20.63 per hour, depending on qualifications, with advancement to $30.94 per hour. The selection process will include an online employment application and supplemental questionnaire. Semi-finalist will be invited to interview and the finalist will have a practical driving test. Prior to hire, applicants are required to pass a background investigation, pre-employment medical examination, and drug screening. A standard 12 month probationary period applies.
