Humanetics CNC Lathe Machinist in Farmington Hills, Michigan

Role Purpose: Setup and Operate CNC Lathes according to predetermined work instructions; utilizing appropriate fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, and materials (metals, plastics, and alloys). Must be able to apply appropriate offsets and adjustments to ensure finished part meets GD&T requirements.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Setup and operate CNC machines; lathe or mill; to produce precision parts.

  • Alter programs, adjust speeds and feeds, utilize cutter compensation, and apply work offsets, to optimize production while maintaining quality.

  • Interpret technical blueprints and designs to understand the specifications and requirements of a part.

  • Inspect finished parts to verify conformance to specifications using precision measuring equipment (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, etc.)

  • Conduct regular maintenance and troubleshooting on CNC machines, ensuring they operate smoothly and efficiently.

  • Effectively and safely operate multiple machines simultaneously.

  • Maintain work area and equipment in a clean orderly condition and follow prescribed safety procedures.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands

  • Required to stand for extended periods of time.

  • Occasionally required to bend (sandblasting).

  • Adequate dexterity for using various hand tools.

  • Ability to install and uninstall tools, parts, and fixtures from machines.

  • Visual acuity to read directions and prints, and to inspect parts closely to ensure they meet specifications.

  • Ability to communicate with co-workers and supervisors.

  • Physical strength to lift and carry 35 pounds occasionally.

    Position Challenges

  • Ability to work overtime, including Saturdays, on a continuing basis as needed.

  • Ability to deal with frequently changing schedules and assignments.

  • Ability to meet tight tolerances while maintaining acceptable output.

  • Safely and effectively use tooling, fixtures and equipment.

    Critical Competencies:

  • Attention to detail.

  • Strong problem-solving.

  • Understanding of G&M code.

  • Understanding of GD&T.

  • Strong mechanical and technical skills.

  • Basic math, measuring devices and blueprint reading.

  • Advanced math such as trigonometry preferred.

  • Ability to use manual mills preferred.

    Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED

  • 3-5 years experience setting up and operating CNC milling and/or turning machines.

  • Experience with DMG MORI NLX Series a plus.
