Department Summary

The Master of Community and Regional Planning (CRP) program trains policy-oriented planners for leadership positions in the public, nonprofit, and private sectors. Our program is applied, collaborative, and interdisciplinary.

The Master of Community and Regional Planning is a professionally accredited master's program that has awarded degrees in planning since 1968. The progressive planning and policy environment in Oregon combined with the award-winning applied projects of the MCRP program offers students an innovative learning environment. Our two-year degree program enrolls approximately 25–30 students each year, and our graduates are consistently successful in finding professional positions after graduation. The School of PPPM also offers accredited Master of Nonprofit Management and Master of Public Administration degrees, a graduate certificate in nonprofit management, an undergraduate minor in nonprofit management, and an undergraduate major and minor in PPPM.

Position Summary

The School of Planning, Public Policy, and Management (PPPM) at the University of Oregon invites applications for two visiting professor positions (open rank) to teach in the undergraduate and the Master of Community and Regional Planning (CRP) program during the 2023-2024 academic year. Candidates with research and teaching interests in any planning area will be considered, provided that candidates can teach required core courses (noted with an asterisk).

The University of Oregon academic year consists of three 11-week terms (Sept 16-June 15). Generally, we anticipate hiring one individual in the area of land use/transportation and one in the area of environmental and social justice. Each visiting professor will teach six courses across three terms (this is the equivalent of two courses per semester in a semester context), which could include:

Visiting faculty members are generally in residence and are expected to participate in the full range of faculty activities.

The successful candidate will also be asked to serve as an academic advisor to 5-8 CRP students.

Minimum Requirements

Visiting faculty must hold a like or relevant position at another institution, or have recently obtained a terminal degree.

To qualify for the Assistant Professor rank:

• Ph.D. in planning or related field, (ABD candidates will be considered).

To qualify for the Associate Professor rank:

• Ph.D. in planning or related field or a closely related field AND

• 6 years of teaching experience post-terminal degree OR

• Same rank held at another university

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior college or university-level teaching experience.
