By performing ultrasonic diagnostic procedures, the Sonographer serves the patient, physician and other support staff.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform requested exams in a manner that assures the interpreting physician that the appropriate exam has been performed and is complete and adequate

  • Provide the physician with the clinical history appropriate to the exam being performed

  • Explain procedures to assure cooperation and optimum test results

  • Position patients: Select appropriate transducer. Conduct scanning procedures using ultrasound equipment. Move scanner over specified body area, and adjust equipment to focus

  • Make hard copy images (OB Only). Document tests

  • Assemble materials for radiologist and transmit information to RIS and PACS systems

  • Maintain ultrasound equipment. Order and stock all ultrasound supplies. Keep work area clean

  • Prepare patients for physician, obtain vital signs, and assist during examination

  • Maintain department records, reports and files

  • Attend required meetings and participate in committees as requested

  • Participate in staff development and educational activities

  • Maintain strictest confidentiality

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Satisfactory completion of formal ultrasound technology training program

  • Current certification as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer

  • Healthcare provider level CPR/BLS certification, or ability to obtain certification within 30 days of employment

  • 2+ years of experience as a sonographer, with at least 1+ years in an OB/GYN setting

Preferred Qualification:

  • Experience with an electronic medical record system
