General Statement of Duties

Eugene Springfield Fire is recruiting for full time Emergency Medical Technicians and Paramedics.

This posting maybe used to fill the following positions:

  • Full-Time EMT Single Role

  • Full-Time Paramedic Single Role

Eligibility List: This posting may also be used to establish an eligibility list of applicants for future vacancies. Candidates that are placed on the eligibility list will be notified via email which will include the duration of the list and how notification of call up will occur.

The Single Role EMT functions in support of the lead medic on an ALS ambulance and is responsible for performing skilled basic life support medical care, including the pre-hospital care, assessment, preparation and transportation of sick and/or injured patients. The Single Role EMT performs all work consistent with the EMT-B/A certification level as specified by established State of Oregon Scope of Practice.

Single Role Paramedics function as lead medic on an ambulance and provides field training oversight to other paramedics or EMT's. This position is responsible for performing skilled advanced life support medical care, including the pre-hospital care, assessment, preparation and transportation of sick and/or injured patients. The Single Role Paramedic (ALS) performs all work consistent with the EMT-Paramedic certification level as specified by established State of Oregon Scope of Practice.

Salary

EMT Single Role Salary Range: $18.77 - $25.12 hourly. Earning Potential: $50,754.28 - $67,924.48 annually. Earning potential is based on a regularly scheduled 48-hour average workweek where all hours worked over 40 in a workweek are paid at 1.5 X the regular hourly rate. This position is paid on an hourly basis; the hourly pay range is $18.77 - $25.12 The annual earning potential listed is based on working 48 hours, on average, per workweek over the span of 52 weeks. The position is eligible for overtime opportunities above the regularly scheduled earning potential reported.

Paramedic Single Role Salary Range: $23.66 - $31.68 hourly. Earning Potential: $63,976.64- $85,662.72 annually. Earning potential is based on a regularly scheduled 48 hour average workweek where all hours worked over 40 in a workweek are paid at 1.5 X the regular hourly rate. This position is paid on an hourly basis; the hourly pay range is $23.66 - $31.68 . The annual earning potential listed is based on working 48 hours, on average, per workweek over the span of 52 weeks. The position is eligible for overtime opportunities above the regularly scheduled earning potential reported.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EMT Single Role

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent. Associates or two-year degree preferred.

Experience:

One year of relevant full-time EMT or related medical experience.

Licenses or Certificates:

  • Oregon Driver’s License (ODL) Valid Oregon driver’s license, or ability to obtain by date of hire; must pass driving records check and, if hired, maintain a driving record that meets the City’s standard. Oregon law requires that an out-of-state license holder must obtain a valid Oregon license (with appropriate endorsements) within 30 days of becoming domiciled in the state (ORS 803.355)

  • Possession of and ability to obtain and maintain a State of Oregon EMT Licensure by date of hire. National Registry EMT or a provisional license would not meet this requirement.

  • FEMA ICS 100, 200, 700, 800 certifications.

  • Emergency Vehicle Operations Course.

Background:

MUST PASS A BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION

Paramedic Single Role

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent. Associates or two-year degree preferred.

Experience:

One year of relevant full-time paramedic training/work or one year of related medical experience. This qualification is satisfied by completing a paramedic internship and clinical rotations.

Licenses or Certificates:

  • Oregon Driver’s License (ODL) Valid Oregon driver’s license, or ability to obtain by date of hire; must pass driving records check and, if hired, maintain a driving record that meets the City’s standard. Oregon law requires that an out-of-state license holder must obtain a valid Oregon license (with appropriate endorsements) within 30 days of becoming domiciled in the state

  • Possession of or ability to obtain and maintain a State of Oregon Paramedic Licensure by date of hire. National Registry Paramedics or a provisional license would not meet this requirement.

Bilingual Pay Benefit: Per the IAFF Contract, the City shall pay an employee equal to 5% of the base rate on base hours excluding overtime. To qualify for bilingual pay, the employee must have demonstrated fluency in the required language and successfully pass a fluency examination administered by the City's Employee Resource Center division.

Selection Process: Applicants are screened based upon their relevant knowledge, abilities, skills, experience, and training. The selection process varies according to the position and can include such things as screening of supplemental questionnaires, written or skill tests, ability or fitness tests, interviews, and assessment processes. In addition, background investigations and records checks may be required. Applicants selected to continue in the process will be notified within two-three weeks after the posting deadline.

Candidates must pass a complete pre-employment physical examination prior to receiving a final offer of employment. The examination and drug test will be conducted by the City’s contracted physician and paid for by the hiring department. Candidates who receive a positive drug test will be disqualified.
