Mother Baby Unit with 3-4 births per day. Nurses care for 3-4 couplets with the focus on patient education and patient safety. The focus is on total care with an emphasis on family bonding in a supportive environment for both the birth family and the staff caring for the birth family. All nursing shift are 12 hours with nursing floating between post partum and well baby nursery areas.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Must be a graduate from an accredited school of nursing

  • A minimum of 1 year RN experience in Mother/Baby or NICU

  • Ability to perform all competencies of the position is required for employment in the position

Preferred:

  • Bachelor s degree preferred

  • Previous OB experience preferred

Certifications and Licenses Required:

  • Current Registered Nurse License in the state of New Jersey

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association

  • NRP certification

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Full-time

  • Night shift

  • 40 hours weekly

  • 12-hour shifts

  • 7:00pm-7:30am

Essential Functions:

Nursing care for newborns requires a Level II Nursery. As a nurse in the Special Care Nursery [SCN] you will provide direct and specialized care for newborns needing close monitoring due to premature birth, birth defects, infection or other medical conditions requiring close observation and assessments.

Working in the SCN with doctors and other healthcare professionals, the SCN nurse assists in developing and implementing a plan of care for high-risk newborns requiring high-technology care, including ventilators, incubators or other special equipment or surgery. Monitors and maintains neonatal oxygen therapy. Monitors and maintains intravenous therapies. Assesses/Monitors vital parameters with non-invasive and invasive techniques. Safely administers medications, including calculating and re-checking of appropriate dosages, proper administration and monitoring for side effects.

Fully supports breast-feeding by encouraging pumping; use of breast milk as able; allowing for privacy during feeding; providing encouragement; utilizing resources for difficult feeding situations; and double-checking identification of stored breast milk prior to use. Participates in and assures preparation for neonatal transport. Maintains NRP certification. Performs bedside urine testing. Provides measures to decrease the risk of infant abduction and demonstrates appropriate response in actual/potential situations. Demonstrates proficiency in ventilator management of newborns. Demonstrates proficiency in TPN administration to newborns.
