Position Summary

The Department of Pharmacology & Toxicology and the College of Human Medicine at Michigan State University invites applications for a tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor. Ideal applicants will have a strong track record of publication that demonstrates expertise in Drug Discovery. Although expertise in drugs used to treat disorders of the nervous system are desired, strong candidates with experience in other areas of pharmacology including other therapeutic interests, screening strategies, biomarker development, monoclonal antibodies  or toxicology are strongly encouraged to apply. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to join and take on a significant role in a highly successful MSU Drug Discovery effort which produces new IP, advances programs towards preclinical and clinical development, and enables the formation of new companies representing the interests of collaborating faculty and the university. The department includes 40 faculty with pharmacology/toxicology expertise in the fields of aging; cancer; cardiovascular research; computation and genomics; environmental toxicology; gastrointestinal/genitourinary research; immune cell pathology; liver pathology; neuroscience.  Successful candidates will be expected to develop a successful research program funded by extramural sources. Successful candidates would be expected to participate in advising, mentoring, and teaching graduate students and preclinical training of medical students.

Michigan State University has outstanding basic research and translational programs that provide ample opportunity for collaborative research. This includes the faculty of many basic science and clinical departments in the College of Osteopathic Medicine, College of Human Medicine, and College of Veterinary Medicine. Additional opportunities for collaboration exist with investigators at the Applied Immunology Center for Education and Research, Institute for Quantitative Health Science and Engineering, Precision Health, and a new Center of Excellence in Imaging and Image-Guided Therapies. Core facilities include advanced microscopy, proteomics, statistics, high-performance computing, genomics, and flow cytometry. Support is available for grant writing, locating external funding resources, and processing grant submissions pre- and post-approval. Numerous internal funding opportunities are also available to support emerging research programs. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to participate in graduate education programs at MSU, including the BioMolecular Science and Comparative Medicine and Integrative Biology programs. The College of Human Medicine has active faculty development and mentorship programs to facilitate career progression.
