The Opportunity

As the US Agriculture and Food Security Specialist and Project Director within MERLA ( Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, Learning and Adapting) division of the Equity Capability, you will help to operationalize and execute an equity led roadmap that supports client needs and staff on projects and new opportunities.You will implement culturally responsive and equitable approaches to monitoring, evaluation, research, learning and adapting and will lead your work in a manner that models and reinforces equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility and that elevates Abt’s vision, mission, values, culture, and strategic priorities. Using an equity lens, you will help the team provide support to projects and proposals funded by the US Department of Agriculture (USDA). Projects vary across the USDA’s research and evaluation agenda, including Food and Nutrition Service, Forest Service, Rural Development, and other offices within the Agency.

Core Responsibilities

  • Serve in project director role for USDA-funded projects focused on agriculture and food security policies.

  • Serve as primary point of contact with clients and ensure that client needs are understood by project team.

  • Provide oversight and ensure that all project deliverables are submitted timely and the quality reviewed.

  • Manage project budgets by reviewing and updating project schedules, and plan resources for work to be completed.

  • Support a diverse team working on USDA evaluation projects and proposals.

  • Handle day-to-day administration of projects, including budget tracking, contracts management, and staffing.

  • Collaborate with managers and supervisors to advise on project related issues and solutions and articulate staffing needs of projects, establish expectations for staff time, and provide feedback on staff performance. Coach, review, and delegate work to early career professionals.

  • Ensure collaborative nature in working with other contracting teams on projects.

  • Develop and disseminate project deliverables and other products to share project findings through papers, technical reports, client briefings, presentations, blog posts, podcasts, videos and/or social media. 

  • Serve as a prime spokesperson on company’s technical capabilities and future directions.

  • Represent Abt in a professional manner and effectively communicate with clients, external partners, and the public. 

What We Value

  • Bachelors + 9 years, Masters + 7 years or PhD + 4 years of relevant experience

  • Demonstrates commitment to fostering and contributing to a team environment that is human centered and grounded in equity.

  • Proven skills in engaging in liberated gatekeeping and power sharing with individuals with lived experiences and lived expertise.

  • Strong track record for collaboration and demonstrated ability to work across diverse clients and teams.

  • Knowledge of and experience working on food and agricultural equity Issues.

  • Experience in producing products that are easy for the public to use and understand.

  • Demonstrates experience and success in all aspects of project management.

  • Experience as a subcontractor managing financial and contractual relationships with a prime contractor.

  • Experience with programs that include direct work in communities and with CBOs.

  • Experience developing reports, briefings, and decks and presenting in a professional and influential manner.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance and to meet deadlines.

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, customer relationship skills.

This position offers an anticipated annual base salary range of approximately $105,120.07 to $168,192.11 and may vary by ten percent depending on the candidate's geographic location.  Salary offers are made based on internal equity and market analysis.
