The Opportunity

Abt Global seeks a qualified research and evaluation professional with expertise in Federal aid, student loans and loan repayment, post-secondary education, and quantitative research methods for an Associate-level position to support Abt’s Research, Monitoring, & Evaluation Capability. As a member of the Research, Monitoring, and Evaluation Capability team, you will execute contract research activities at the highest levels of quality and rigor to generate evidence-based insights.

The successful candidate will assist in the design and execution of education evaluation with a particular focus on student loans and loan repayment, post-secondary education, and related education policies. In addition, the successful candidate may contribute to quantitative tasks on other research and evaluation projects. The ideal candidate will have experience developing and conducting experimental, quasi-experimental, descriptive, and mixed-methods research designs for program evaluation in the social sciences.

Core Responsibilities

  • Manage research and evaluation tasks for federal clients.

  • Examples include (and are not limited to) such technical activities designing rigorous studies and conducting power calculations, directing analyses, developing deliverables including analysis plans, reports and briefs, technical appendices, Responsibilities would also include such project leadership activities as managing technical tasks, coordinating project timelines, overseeing budgets, supervising staff, and communicating with clients.

  • Contribute subject matter expertise in post-secondary education, Federal aid, loans and loan repayment, other education policies and programming, and their intersection with other human services systems (e.g., related to child/family well-being).

  • Manage project teams by communicating respectfully, meeting deadlines, and exercising initiative to resolve complex challenges.

  • Work independently, completing complex tasks under indirect supervision where there is latitude for independent action and decision-making.

  • Support business development activities including developing solutions and writing proposals.

  • Contribute to developing and disseminating project deliverables and other products to share project findings through client briefings, presentations, blog posts, podcasts, videos and/or social media.

  • Maintain excellent business development relationships with clients and external partners.

What We Value

  • Demonstrated experience with experimental and quasi-experimental research, quantitative analysis, data collection, and reporting. Experience with qualitative and mixed-methods research considered a plus.

  • What Works Clearinghouse certification desirable but not required.

  • A record of contributing to publications, presentations, and other knowledge-dissemination activities.

  • Aptitude and interest in mentoring less-experienced staff and managing multidisciplinary teams.

  • Demonstrated experience translating research and making it accessible to practice, policy, and/or government audiences.

  • Experience with business development and proposal or grant writing.

  • A well-rounded interpersonal skill set with the capacity to build relationships with clients, funders, and workforce development leaders, and to work effectively in a team environment.

  • Associate: Master’s Degree + Seven years of relevant experience, or PhD + Four years of relevant experience

  • Economics Associate: PhD in Economics + Four years of relevant experience

This position offers an anticipated annual base salary range of approximately $105,000 to $168,000 for an Economics Associate, and $91,000 to $146,000 for an Associate and may vary by ten percent depending on candidate geographic location. Salary offers are made based on internal equity and market analysis.
