Specific duties will include the design and execution of new generation biochemical, molecular, and cellular, along with mouse model experiments as they pertain to the 1) mechanism of disease progression and 2) development of novel treatment paradigms and pharmacological agents for cancer and metabolic diseases. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Representative techniques to be employed include CRISPR knock-out, CRISPR activation, and CRISPR inhibition technologies, proteomics sample preparation/experimental design and data analysis, comprehensive biochemistry and molecular biology techniques, in vivo mouse tumor allograft and xenograft models, mouse genetics, and other pertinent biomedical techniques as needed. The research assistant professor in their current position will publish findings in relevant biomedical research journals, and will apply for grant funding along with the PI from internal and external funding agencies from federal and private sources. The candidate will train students ranging from undergraduate, graduate, and post-doctoral educational backgrounds in a supportive and dynamic environment in support of the trainee's specific career goals. In its current capacity, the candidate position will span scientific research and service duties consistent with the goals of the College of Pharmacy at the University of Minnesota. 65% Experimental Research Perform research protocols as described above 20% Mentoring Students Guiding students within CoP and associated departments in scientific and career development 10% Grant Writing Applying for internal and external funding along with the PI from federal or private institutions 5% Manuscript Writing Communicating scientific discovery through publication in peer reviewed scientific journals * The Employer retains the right to change or assign other duties to this position. Work arrangements: This role is offered as an on-campus position where the candidate is required to be onsite at our Duluth, MN campus on a regular basis. The ability for some flexibility with this requirement and the specific schedule will be determined between the candidate and supervisor. Working Conditions: The majority of the work in this position is performed in a laboratory and general office settings. Supervision: The position will supervise undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral fellows in the context of experimental design, hypothesis development, data acquisition and interpretation, and scientific communication. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Classification Required Qualifications: Terminal degree with substantial research and publication record PhD in biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, chemical biology, or related field. 3 years of post-doctoral training in relevant area of expertise. Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated expertise in chemistry, biochemistry, molecular biology and related techniques necessary in support of basic and translational sciences in cancer and metabolic diseases. Previous work in medicinal chemistry, mechanistic chemical biology, and translational biosciences is preferred.
