Job Summary:Support language acquisition of English Language Learners by helping prepare for materials and assist student academically.Please see attached job descripton for further information on functions of the position along with educational and experience requirements.Successful candidates for this position will possess:
High School Diploma, HiSET or G.E.D.
One of the following:
a.48 credit hours post-secondary education
b.Associate's Degree or higher
c.Para Educator Certification from the Board of Educational Examiers (or willingness to obtain within the first year of employment)
d. combined score of 150 or higher on the COMPASS test or
e.a passing score on the Accuplacer test
Bilingual or Multingual
Highly Qualified Candidates for the position will possess:
Bachelor’s degree in education, student services, world language or related field.
Experience working with children and families with a refugee or immigrant background.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
Knowledge of working with the English Language Learners.
Knowledge of second language acquisition and second language instruction program.
Competency working in a culturally diverse environment or the willingness to acquire these skills.
Position Details:190 Days7.50 hours23-24 Salary starting at $15.96. 24-25 Salary to be determined. Candidates offered employment will be compensated based on skills, work experience and education.Des Moines Public Schools offers agenerous benefits packageincluding:IPERS

Insurance Benefits
Single and Family Health Insurance at no cost to the employee during the first plan year of employment (July 1 - June 30). Premium cost is $600/year after that.
Employees can earn up to $600/year via participation in the Healthy U program.
