Primary Health Care Clinical Practice Manager II - East Side Clinic in Des Moines, Iowa

Primary Health Care (PHC) was founded in 1981 by Dr. Bery Engebretsen in Des Moines, IA. Our mission has remained unchanged since that time, to provide healthcare and supportive services to all, regardless of insurance, immigration status, or ability to pay.

Based on the needs of the communities we serve, PHC offers a spectrum of medical and dental services including family practice, behavioral health, HIV care and services, and pharmacy. PHC’s Homeless Support Services is the entry point for serving people experiencing homelessness in Polk County. Enabling services are available to help patients with benefits enrollment, case management, transportation, translation, and patient education. We currently have locations in Ames, Des Moines, & Marshalltown.

As a Clinical Practice Manager you will be responsible for clinical operations of assigned clinical unit(s), including clinical workflow compliance, The PHC Way, and EMR optimization.

What You Will Do

  • Ensures effective back-end operations including use of PHC Way puzzle pieces and EMR optimization. Ensures that in-boxes are cleared daily and documentation is completed within required timeframes.

  • Manages assigned personnel; responsible for scheduling, hiring, orientation, training, and performance management. Provides ongoing coaching, feedback and guidance to employees to aid in job and goal achievement. Collaborates with Area Director and Medical Director regarding provider performance when needed.

  • Maintains knowledge about scope of practice for all assigned personnel, ensures staff are working within scope of practice and at the top of their license.

  • Ensures training of clinical staff and oversees completion of competency checks in collaboration with an RN as necessary. Collaborates with Clinical Training Specialists to address any training needs or support.

  • Collaborates with Clinic Administrator to develop and maintain a culture within the clinic consistent with the organizational culture. Builds relationships within clinic to develop trust, as well as patient, provider and employee satisfaction and engagement. Ensures a positive patient experience by monitoring customer service provided by assigned staff.

  • Monitors and proactively manages clinic flow to ensure optimal patient experience considering available human and physical resources. Facilitates a daily huddle for assigned unit to ensure thorough communication.

  • Manages financials of the clinic operations including purchasing and expenses related to clinical operations, including personnel management and revenue generation.

  • Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements including OSHA, HRSA, and The Joint Commission, as well as local, state and federal regulations. Ensures clinical quality measures are met and clinical &/or safety checklists are completed.

  • Implements strategic initiatives including leading change management efforts, informing and educating all clinic employees to ensure effective implementation. Supports implementation of clinical best practices.

    Qualifications You Need to Bring

    Required

  • Completion of an accredited nursing program accepted by the Iowa Board of Nursing for candidates with LPN or RN licensure or high school diploma or equivalent for candidates with MA certification.

  • A minimum of 2 years ambulatory care, hospital, or long-term care experience.

  • A minimum of 2 years of hands-on leadership/supervisory experience.

  • Supervisory skills with ability to effectively provide direction and feedback.

  • Strong detail orientation with high degree of accuracy.

  • Organization, prioritization, and time management skills with ability to work under minimal supervision.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Basic computer skills with proficiency using Microsoft Office applications specific to word processing and spreadsheets.

  • Licenses & Certifications: Current LPN or RN license recognized by the Iowa Board of Nursing or current Medical Assistant Certification or Registration issued by AAMA, AMT, NCCT, or NHA, current Basic Life Support for HealthCare Providers; current Mandatory Reporter approved for the State of Iowa.

    • Must be obtained with Introductory Period if not current.

      Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing, Business Administration, Public Health, Accounting, or related field.

  • Community Health Center and Medical or Dental clinic management experience.

  • Experience in grant writing and/or grant management.

  • Written and verbal bilingual skills in English and Spanish.

  • Knowledge or accounts payable and/or cash collection.

  • Program development and marketing skills.

  • Licenses & Certifications: Lean process improvement certification.

    Your experience and skills determine your base pay. The hiring range for this position is typically $63,600 - $79,500 per annually. Candidates with extensive work experience related to this position may be considered for additional compensation up to the pay grade maximum of $95,400.
