UCHealth Medication Access Specialist in Denver, Colorado

Location: Pharmacy Authorization Center (PAC), Lowry Admin Building, Aurora, CO

Shifts/Hours:

  • Full time

  • Monday - Friday, Hours may vary between 7:30 am - 5:00pm

  • Day shift

Pay: $21.49 - $27.94 / hour. Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.

The Pharmacy Authorization Center (PAC) team works to improve prescription access for patients of UCHealth ambulatory specialty and primary care clinics. A Medication Access Specialist (MAS) is an insurance specialist whose work includes benefits investigation, submitting prior authorization requests, and processing payor denials and approvals. MAS also coordinates with third-party insurance, clinical staff/pharmacists, and patients to effectively process prior authorization requests for medications within the prescribed timelines.

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED.

  • PHATP (Pharmacy Technician Provisional) certification from State Board of Pharmacy. PHAT (Pharmacy Technician) certification from State Board of Pharmacy within 18 months of hire.

  • Certification as a Pharmacy Technician (CPhT).

  • 2 years of Pharmacy Technician experience or 1 year of experience performing prior authorizations or refill renewals.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Benefits investigation including insurance adjudication

  • Submitting claims through payor portals online and via phone

  • Troubleshooting payor rejections and coordinating pharmacy follow-up with approvals

  • Understanding financial assistance options and submitting applications for manufacturer assistance programs and medication access grants

  • Analyzing and comprehending patient notes in electronic health record

  • Thoroughly documenting progress and bridging communications between patients, pharmacies, and clinic staff
