Dayton Children's Hospital Pharmacy Technician II in Dayton, Ohio

Facility:Dayton Children's - Main CampusDepartment:Inpatient PharmacySchedule:Full timeHours:40Job Details:The Pharmacy Technician II assists the pharmacist with the preparation of medications for dispensing. The technician performs various technical and supportive tasks necessary to provide pharmacy services. The pharmacy technician II works under supervision of the pharmacist, and focuses on accurate medication preparation following established policy and procedures set forth by the Pharmacy Department. This role meets the requirements of being a qualified pharmacy technician as established by the State Board of Pharmacy and holds a Certified Pharmacy Technician license from a State Board of Pharmacy accredited agency. The technician complies with state and federal drug laws as regulated by the state board of pharmacy, the drug enforcement administration, and the food and drug administration, along with other regulatory agencies. The pharmacy technician II has mastered job duties and responsibilities and takes active part in training technicians and quality improvement projects.

Education:

  • HSD/GED is required

    Certification/Licensure:

  • CPhT - Certified Pharmacy Technician - State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy is required

  1. Assist the pharmacist
  • Works under direct supervision of the pharmacist on duty

  • Prepares medications and properly displays product for pharmacist to verify and dispense

  • Understands technician role vs pharmacist role and adheres to regulations established by the State Board of Pharmacy

  • Consults pharmacist with questions pertaining to patient care and ensures procedures are followed appropriately

  • Works cooperatively with other technicians and pharmacists to ensure overall goal of medication preparation is performed accurately and efficiently

  1. Pharmacy Functions
  • Answers the phone promptly and directs caller to the appropriate person

  • Maintains integrity of pharmaceutical products throughout preparation

  • Maintains a clean and orderly work environment

  • Accurately prepares and distributes patient medications

  • Performs various technical and supportive tasks necessary to provide pharmacy services.

  • Sorts, stocks and labels medications and monitors inventory

  • Assists in expired drug process and procedures

  • Participates in departmental quality improvement projects

  1. Compliance
  • Works under supervision of the pharmacist following established policy and procedures set forth by the hospital and Pharmacy Department.

  • Adheres to safety practices in order to ensure quality care for patients.

  • Maintains biannual and annual competencies for USP guidelines.

  • Shows familiarity with pharmacy practice settings, legal requirements and limitations, prescription information and calculations, drug identification and generic equivalents, drug manufacturing, packaging and labeling information, and proper drug handling and storage practices

  • Supportive of management with new initiatives.

  • Encourages and motivates other pharmacy team members.

  • Masters job duties and responsibilities and takes active part in training and quality improvement projects.

Education Requirements:
