Posting Title: Electroplate/Chemical Engineer (Onsite)

The Raytheon Thin Film Factory requires an Senior Engineer to be responsible for custom multilayer Electroplating/Chemical Etch process development, factory support, documentation creation and maintenance as well as capital package creation and deployment. The position will reside in Mechanical Engineering within the Electronics Packaging, Materials and Process Development Department. The team focuses on development of assembly methods, materials, and processes for current and next generation microwave products, with a very heavy emphasis on cutting-edge automation and materials. You will work hand-in-hand with product engineers, quality engineers, reliability engineers, and manufacturing engineers to produce microelectronic packages.

What You Will Do:

Provide manufacturing/process engineering support of electroplating, chemical etching, custom plating process development and factory support, on custom multilayer metallization of aluminum, gold, nickel and copper products.

Design custom metallization processes for a number of substrate compositions including but not limited to ceramic, garnet, and ferrites surfaces.

Be part of an Engineering team to support design and development from a materials prospective, verifying materials requirements, translating requirements into specifications, provide mentorship to product designers, failure analysis of materials, participating in materials qualification, supplier assessments, optimizing materials and processes to meet design requirements.

Developing and implementing materials and processes, process improvements, and equipment selection using established statistical process control techniques, experimental designs, and material analysis.

Analysis and evaluation of materials, equipment and processes (including qualification, acceptance testing, and specification development)

Identify potential design/process changes through RCCA, lessons learned, commonly observed defects, low yield, etc. and drive solution and improvement implementation.

You will be expected to provide recommendations to a variety of technical problems of appropriate scope and complexity, working under general supervision.

Qualifications You Must Have:

Experience and knowledge of electroplating of gold, nickel and copper on ceramic/garnet/ferrites surfaces

Experience and knowledge of chemical etching and cleaning processes associated with plating and support of photography processes.

Knowledge of chemicals and equipment used in thin film electronics manufacturing

A University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years experience

Qualifications We Prefer:

Experience working within a team environment

Strong communication (verbal and written) and people skills

Ability to demonstrate delivery quality and timely results

Ability to work in a clean room environment

Personal flexibility to support on-site and be on-call for factory production

Experience working in a lab environment and with standard lab tools

Statistical Process Control (SPC) and statistical data analysis

Design of Experiment (DOE) techniques

Knowledge of non-destructive test – SEM, FTIR, XRF

Knowledge of destructive test – shear, tensile strength testing a plus

Knowledge of material properties relationships, Mil-Std- 833 and JEDEC test methods

Typically requires:

The salary range for this role is 77,000 USD - 163,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
