UPMC Patient Ambulation Technician in Cumberland, Maryland

UPMC Western Maryland is looking for Patient Ambulation Technicians to support our Clinical Resource Team.

Patient Ambulation Technicians work in both inpatient and outpatient settings. You will provide assistance to and works under the supervision of professional staff in implementing patient care treatment plans. Transports patients and adjunct equipment between treatment areas. Maintains open communication with coworkers, physicians and other dept staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists with clerical functions.

  • Consistently reports to work for regularly scheduled shift while adhering to designated start/end times of shift and meal periods. Proper utilization of PTO.

  • Demonstrates timely completion of all annual competencies as required by department, regulatory and accrediting agencies and UPMC Health System.

  • Assists with the treatment of patients under the supervision of professional staff including but not limited to:Ambulating patients as directed by licensed professional.Patient treatment including transfers/bed mobility, vital signs, therapeutic activities/exercise.Assisting patients with the use of various modes of exercise equipment.Adhering to safety measures/procedures set forth by department policies and procedures.Offering explanation/clarification to patients as needed (within their scope of this position, their experience and training).Notifying licensed professionals when uncertain of treatment program/technique or if/when patient's response/condition changes.

  • Prepares for and responds to emergencies in a manner consistent with hospital/department guidelines.

  • Upon request by Supervisor, assists with staff development, special projects and community programs.

  • Promotes effective communication and demonstrates cooperation and teamwork within the Rehab Services Department, the Cardiopulmonary Rehab Department, the hospital and with other health care professionals.

  • Participation in the Co-Worker Feedback program if asked.

  • Transports patients and adjunct equipment between treatment areas in safe, timely and professional manner.

  • Participates in meetings, inservices and continuing education.

  • Must be a high school graduate or equivalent (GED) and must possess technical training and experience in patient care and related activities.

  • Must be an effective communicator, outgoing and friendly and maintain open communication co-workers and other dept staff.

  • Undergraduate training in exercise science OR certificate in health-related technical program preferred.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
