ANCC Magnet designated UPMC Passavant is currently hiring a Full-Time Support Generalist to support our Emergency Department at the Cranberry location.

Our Full-Time Support Generalists typically work 40 hours each week to cover daylight, evening, overnight, weekend, and holiday shifts. Hours may vary by unit. Candidates with prior patient care experience are highly preferred and encouraged to apply.

**Hired candidates will be required to attend orientation (classroom-based and unit-based) at Passavant for up to two weeks prior to beginning in this role.

Purpose:

Responsible for providing routine patient care and support services to include maintaining cleanliness of patient rooms, patient transports, and general care of patients according hospital policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Setting up patient care equipment and rooms within the scope of the support generalist position.

  • Clean, disinfect, and tag appropriate equipment including but not limited to beside commodes, IV stands and pumps, and specialty equipment.

  • Cleaning of patient rooms to include disposing of linens, trash and hazardous waste and stocking unit-specific equipment and supplies.

  • Perform work assigned in a timely and productive manner.

  • Provide environmental services for the unit including but not limited to cleaning patient rooms and staff areas, performing terminal and discharge room cleaning.

  • Assist with patient support activities to include responding to call lights and telephones, passing meal trays, feeding patients, passing water pitchers, patient transfers and ambulation, patient transport to other ancillary departments and to nursing units.

  • Maintain schedule for cleaning equipment on unit, disinfecting wheelchairs and stretchers.

  • Strictly adhere to all policies and practices relative to patient care and hospital related information.

  • Ensure equipment malfunctions are reported to the appropriate department.

  • Comply with safety policies and procedures including standard precautions, body mechanics, etc.

High School diploma or equivalent If no previous hospital or pre-hospital training, successful completion of UPMC nursing assistant training program or Nursing Student that has completed one Clinical Rotation.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • NIMS required or obtained within orientation period.

  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

  • Act 34
