About the job:

In accordance with the Mission and Guiding Behaviors; the Life Safety Compliance Specialist provides direct Life Safety compliance operations for all MCHS assigned hospitals/ offsite locations to include all applicable healthcare required testing for monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual life safety building components.

  • Education: High school diploma required; Associate degree or job or related trade school preferred

  • Licenses/Certifications Required:

  • State of Ohio (Fire, Sprinkler, Portable Fire Extinguisher) License

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Appropriate auto insurance

  • ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800 within 90 days of hire

  • Licenses/Certifications Preferred:

  • NICET Level 1 certification in Fire Protection Engineering, Inspecting and Testing of Water Based Fire Suppression. Systems or Fire Alarm Systems

  • NICET Level 2 certification in Fire Protection Engineering, Inspecting and Testing of Water Based Fire Suppression Systems or Fire Alarm Systems

  • Certifications in NFPA 99 and/or 101, OSHA (30 or 501)

  • Certification CLSS-HC, CHSP, CHFSP

  • Experience: Two years minimum of related experience

Essential Responsibilities

· Meets population specific and all other competencies according to department requirements.

· Promotes a Culture of Safety by adhering to policy, procedures and plans that are in place to prevent workplace injury, violence or adverse outcome to associates and patients.

· Relationship-based Care: Creates a caring and healing environment that keeps the patient and family at the center of care throughout their experience at Mount Carmel following the principles of our interdisciplinary care delivery system.

· Serves as the Life Safety Compliance Specialist for assigned hospitals and offsite locations by developing, coordinating, monitoring, and maintaining the Life Safety/Fire Prevention Program at the direction of your department supervisor or director.

· As needed, will attend design/construction meetings to provide technical expertise as appropriate.

· Ensures proper procedure is followed on for identified compliance issues related to Safety, Fire Prevention, Life Safety or Hazardous Materials.

· Serves as an educator, for OSHA/NFPA related criteria (i.e., Hazcom, Power Industrialized Trucks, ARC flash protection, Fire Safety, Code Red drills, Electrical Safety, etc.). This position may also be involved in designing safety related programs as appropriate.

· Serves as a subject matter expert and investigates deficiencies/compliance issues- Implementing ILSM as appropriate and conducting timely follow-up and documentation.

· Inspects and tests all types of fire protection and prevention components such as fire/smoke dampers, fire alarm systems, wet pipe sprinkler systems, dry pipe sprinkler systems, kitchen hood systems, etc.

· Perform required annual inspections on fire alarm systems and all associated components.

· Perform required annual, semi-annual, and quarterly inspections on fire sprinkler systems, suppression systems, and related components.

· Perform monthly/annual fire extinguisher inspections.

· Perform fire wall visual inspections and 6-year fire/smoke damper inspections.

· Complete inspection documentation on Joint Commission formatted documents and NFPA documents.

· Periodic environmental Safety Tour Rounding

· Provides performance monitoring data related to the position as assigned.

· Maintains/Inspects/Tracks/Documents assigned fire suppression systems per NFPA/CMS/TJC/AHJ

· Maintains/inspects/Tracks/Documents fire alarm detection systems per NFPA/CMS/TJC/AHJ

· Maintains working knowledge of current in use regulatory (i.e., appropriate NFPA version as designated by CMS/AHJ, Building Code, etc.

· Maintain working knowledge of OSHA/Ohio EPA related job compliance.
