Operations Manager

Job Description

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

This role will be responsible for carrying out plant operations, providing high quality products on time, and identifying areas for improvement. Managerial duties include setting and communicating a plant production plan to the managers and supervisors. Setting expectations and directing department managers, supervisors, and hourly work force. This role is also responsible for insuring materials, equipment, and assets are used efficiently throughout the shop. The role is crucial in communicating safety issues, quality problems, and customer orders.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise staff, including interviewing, hiring, employee communications, onboarding, training, discipline, evaluation, and termination responsibilities.

  • Key point of contact within Wabtec and with external customers and vendors.

  • Set daily and weekly production schedule across all shifts.

  • Clearly communicates production schedule to both leaders and hourly.

  • Assign, train and direct employees on jobs, developing an attitude of cooperation.

  • Ensure the machine operators are properly trained and work in a safe and efficient manner.

  • Coordinate daily shop activities and production priorities.

  • Work closely with the Safety Manager and chairing the Safety Committee in developing, maintaining, and revising the Risk Reduction Plan.

  • Assure all new employees are trained with the safety plan during their onboarding process.

  • Manage inventory levels of various consumables as needed.

  • Responsible for all Time and Attendance functions including bi-weekly payroll.

  • Responsible for scheduling: vacations, overtime, etc.

  • Communicate rules of conduct

  • Work with HR on related issues/reporting

  • Open order status reports

  • Monitor and maintain safety procedures and conditions to prevent accidents and provide a safe workplace.

  • Oversee and verify employee safety training in accordance with the established schedule.

  • Coordinate repair activities with maintenance.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum education, job experience, certifications, skills, knowledge, and abilities that incumbent must typically have to perform the essential functions of the job acceptably with or without a reasonable accommodation.

  • College, technical degree, or equivalent supervisory experience

  • Five or more years of work experience, including supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Comprehensive knowledge manufacturing and machining/assembling processes.

  • Knowledge of production/materials control system,

  • Product knowledge preferred.

  • Understanding of continuous improvement, lean manufacturing concepts, and production schedules

  • Proficient in the use of computers

  • Excellent verbal and written communication/language skills required to include the ability to provide written and verbal instructions, compile and present business reports/correspondence, and present information clearly.

  • Excellent analytical and reasoning ability for solving problems and good judgment for decision-making.
