Key Responsibilities:

The Director of Reliability will lead an integrated team of Fleet Managers and Reliability Engineers to continuously improve aircraft mechanical reliability and work cross-functionally across engineering, quality, safety, and maintenance to achieve results. This role will identify areas of improvement by collecting and analyzing relevant data including delays, cancellations, Operational Risk Index (ORI) events, log page data, out of service events, and other indicators of aircraft performance. Develop and execute action plans including changes to manuals and maintenance programs as well as modifications to aircraft. This function is a critical role within United’s Continuing Analysis and Surveillance System (CASS).

  • Performance driven – develop and improve fleet reliability metrics that balance safety, customer experience, mechanical defects, and economic concerns to prioritize areas of focus. Drives collaboration for performance improvement and achieves desired results.

  • Strategic and tactical focus – develop action plans and monitor progress to address specific systems and/or specific aircraft within a fleet by identifying, investigating, and resolving problems that impact operational performance.

  • Lead by influence – guides and prioritizes the work performed by other departments within United Airlines including Maintenance, Planning, Supply Chain, Engineering, and others.

  • Collaborates with key suppliers to deliver practical, on-time solutions to United Airlines.

  • Compliance – meets or exceeds the relevant reliability program and reporting requirements contained in United Airlines General Maintenance Manual, Title 14 of Code of Federal Regulations, and associated FAA guidance material.

  • Team development – fosters an environment that encourages learning; promotes a culture of innovation, agility, inclusion, and teamwork.

Qualifications

What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering

  • 7+ years of aircraft engineering experience including 3+ years leading people at Sr. Manager level.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Project management skills

  • Knowledge of airline operations and aircraft type certification requirements

  • Sophisticated problem-solving skills

What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Master’s degree in engineering, or Business Administration with undergraduate engineering degree

  • Experience working directly as an airline engineer (subject matter expert)

  • Experience with machine learning, data analytics, and predictive maintenance statistics and data analytics.

  • Knowledge of Palantir platform
