The successful candidate will be responsible for providing support and assistance with daily living activities, helping to implement individualized plans, and providing guidance and instruction in the areas of health, safety, nutrition, and socialization. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, a passion for helping others, and the ability to think quickly in order to respond to challenging situations. The candidate must beable to take individuals on outings of choiceandhave patiencewith this population!!!

This (DSP) Direct Support Professional's role is to: provide support to individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities in aResidential Group Home Setting.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directs and supports Intellectually Disabled/Developmentally Disabled individuals with daily living personal assistance such as eating, grooming, bathing, dressing, and etc.
  • Preparing individuals for Day Support and other Community Outings
  • Assist with in developing and achieving personal goals; Providing a Person-Centered Approach to each individual
  • Assists with meal planning and house-keeping; Ability to provide transportation to appointments and activities.
  • Assists with mobility as needed; Able to lift over 40 lbs.
  • Crisis Intervention, De-Escalating and Prevention of Behavioral Incidents
  • Ensure the health, safety and well-being of each individual
  • Must be able to document Clear, DETAILED, notes about daily activities and progress of individuals supported;
  • Write all documentation in an accurate manner, prior to the end of the shift including, but not limited to: MEDICATION LOGS, OVERNIGHT LOGS, PROGRESS NOTES, COMMUNITY INTEGRATION LOGS, AND INCIDENT REPORTS IF NEEDED.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability and willingness to professionally support individuals and think critically in a crisis situation. Such situations could include psychiatric, behavioral and medical emergencies.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills ARE REQUIRED in order to develop and maintain positive relationships with adults with disabilities and provide a positive environmental setting.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide (basic arithmetic).
  • Ability to use emergency equipment and supplies, and to respond professionally in a variety of emergency situations.
  • Able to pass Background and Central Registry Checks, NO BARRIER CRIME HISTORY
