The University of Virginia Department of Pediatrics and Division of Neonatology invite applications for Division Director of Neonatology. Academic neonatologists at the rank of Associate or full Professor are encouraged to apply. This position will be tenure-eligible or tenure-ineligible.

The ideal candidate for UVA Neonatology Division Director is an established academic neonatologist with strong leadership skills. An active research program is desirable but not required. The Division Director must be board-certified in neonatology and will be expected to contribute to clinical service in the NICU.

The UVA NICU is a 54-bed level IV unit with about 850 admissions per year, many of them born at outside hospitals and many with complex multisystem conditions. We care for pre-op cardiac patients (post-op care in the PICU) and have an ECMO program in the NICU with about 8 cases per year. We are hoping to expand to a larger unit in this decade.

The UVA Neonatology faculty comprise 13 board-certified neonatologists with a broad range of academic interests including bench research, clinical research, quality improvement and education. Our Neonatology Fellowship program includes 9 fellows, also with a broad range of academic interests.

Clinical research:

UVA SOM has an active and vibrant clinical research enterprise. The UVA human subjects institutional review board (IRB) is accredited by the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs, Inc. (AAHRPP) and as such can act as the IRB of record for multi-site investigator-initiated trials; the UVA IRB also accepts National Cancer Institute (NCI) Central Institutional Review Board (CIRB) protocols. The SOM is served by two clinical research offices, the Office for Clinical Research (OCR) in the Cancer Center and the Clinical Trials Office (CTO) in the SOM, as well as a clinical trials management system (CTMS, OnCore) and a robust trial start up program (CR Connect).
