Join AIR as a Research Assistant Intern with ourEducation Statistics (https://www.air.org/our-work/education) team during our 2024 Virtual Summer Internship Program.The mission of our Education Statistics team is to provide statistical evidence that is meaningful, timely, accurate, and trustworthy. The Intern can expect to work on projects centered around social studies standards.

AIR’s 2024 Virtual Summer Internship Program is designed to identify, attract, and hire the best collegiate talent that will drive creativity and innovation while enabling the organization to create a diverse and skilled talent pool. Spanning 10 – 12 weeks, AIR’s paid summer program provides Interns with various learning and networking opportunities that enhance their skillset and build lasting professional connections.

Candidates hired for the position may work remotely within the United States (U.S.) or from one of ourU.S. office locations. (https://www.air.org/locations#headquarters) This does not include U.S. territories.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities for the position include:

  • Conduct literature reviews on current social studies issues and summarizing current research

  • Assist staff in the review and identification of scholarly information describing research in the field of social studies

  • Participate in the collection, analysis, and review of research and evaluation data

  • Develop spreadsheets and databases focusing on the analysis of state social studies standards

  • Analyze quantitative and qualitative research data and contribute to the reporting and interpretation of findings

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, and Experience:

  • Must be a current student (for the duration of the internship) enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in such fields as history, civics, geography, economics, psychology, sociology, public policy, or other social science related fields

  • Knowledge of data collection and analysis methodologies and techniques, such as survey design, analysis of program administrative data, and conduct of structured interviews, observations, and focus groups

  • Knowledgeable in using statistical software programs such as Nvivo, SPSS, or Stata to analyze data – a plus but not required

Skills:

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy

  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite or the equivalent (word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software)

  • Proficiency with Google products

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate efficiently in a virtual work environment

  • Comfortable working independently and as a member of a team with individuals from diverse backgrounds and at all levels

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the U.S. International students who are studying at an accredited U.S. college or university under F1 visas are eligible to apply under Curricular Practical Training (CPT) stipulations.

This position offers $22.00 per hour. Salary offers are made based on internal equity within the organization and external equity with competitive markets. Please note this is the salary for candidates that are based in the United States.
