Rockwell Collins Inc. d/b/a Collins Aerospace has an opening for a Principal Engineer, Software Engineering in Cedar Rapids, IA. Travel to customer and other Collins Aerospace facilities in Canada and France (Toronto/Montreal/Toulouse) for design reviews including Preliminary Design Review, Critical Design Review and testing activities to Wichita, KS may be required. The frequency is 1-2 times per year for 1 week at a time for the design review activities and up to 2 weeks for the testing activities

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage overall project requirements, reliability, logistics, coordination of different teams, evaluation measurements, and other disciplines for large or complex projects.

  • Coordinate control engineering, industrial engineering, organizational studies, and project management.

  • Monitor budgets, cost, effectiveness, and reliability of activities and make recommendations to optimize resources, prioritize spending, and ensure that standards are met.

  • Manage work-processes, optimization methods, and risk management tools for large or complex projects.

  • Research, evaluate and recommend investments or changes in technology, resources, procedures, equipment, systems, or other assets to improve the quality of the organization's systems products and services.

  • Provide analysis for the decomposition of customer specifications and system level requirements into sub-system and piece part requirements and make recommendations for the generation of verification criteria and plans for the requirements.

    Required Qualifications:

  • Must possess a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, or a related field and at least 8 years of progressive experience as a Systems Engineer or a related role. In the alternative, at least a master’s degree or its equivalent in Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, or a related field and at least 5 years of experience as a Systems Engineer or a related role would be acceptable.

  • At least 5 years of experience working with avionics/aircraft systems and multiple sub-systems, avionics protocols and tools (ARINC429, Wireshark, and Flight Data Recorder data), and Aircraft Systems and aircraft operational fundamentals;

  • At least 5 years of experience with Systems Engineering tools and Processes including Requirements Capture (Doors/Jama), Change management (Clear quest/JIRA), and Test Methodologies;

  • At least 5 years of experience working within a regulatory environment (FAA/EASA/TC/ANAC) and airworthiness;

  • At least 5 years of experience with avionics problem solving and hands-on troubleshooting;

  • At least 5 years of experience operating test facilities either through simulations, testing on-host or on target;

  • At least 3 years of experience with DO-297 IMA and IPS software developments;

  • At least 3 years of experience estimating engineering developments, creating bid proposals, presenting status, metrics, and tracking project performance using tools such as Microsoft Project and Earned Value methodologies.

The expected salary range for this position falls between $96,366.00 to $196,000.00 USD annually. Disregard any other range mentioned in this posting.

The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.
